Job Function:  

The Group Art Supervisor is responsible for every aspect of art needs for one or more brands, depending on the size. This role includes directing and/or reviewing all work produced by Junior Art Directors, Art Directors, and Art Supervisors assigned to the brand(s). The Group Art Supervisor must ensure that all work produced meets the standards set by the agency and client(s). This is a hands-on position, requiring the individual to produce an appropriate proportion of creative work. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Creative/Hands-on Work (60%)

  • Team with Group Copy Supervisor to produce standout and strategically focused concepts and campaigns
  • Take on appropriate projects and own them, start to finish
  • Manage and work independently, under tight deadlines, while juggling multiple projects
  • Estimate art costs
  • Approve, with ACD and/or CD, selection of photographers, models, props and locations
  • Supervise shoots on location (includes travel)
  • Work with production to specify paper stocks and printing techniques
  • Supervise engraving, proofing and printing of materials
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations
  • Attend market research as appropriate

 

Management (20%)

  • Delegate to and supervise the work of staff and freelance art directors assigned to the brand
  • Manage workloads to maximize productivity of the art team, ensuring that everyone is busy and billable
  • Work closely with copy, CAD, editorial and traffic departments to ensure that deadlines and budgets are met
  • Provide written and face-to-face feedback for annual performance reviews, as well as ongoing feedback throughout the year (written when requested)
  • Interview prospective art candidates

 

Leadership (20%)

  • Lead the art team in development of concepts and execution of all projects from conception to completion
  • Assure that all art directors are trained and, where needed, mentored to maintain the standards and expectations of the agency and the client, and to meet their own career goals
  • Demonstrate to clients that you understand their products and marketing challenges and are responsive to the strategic and creative needs
  • Represent the agency at client meetings and social events as appropriate

  

Qualifications: 

  • 7-10 years’ agency experience
  • BA degree (Advertising, Communications, Fine Arts or related field preferred)
  • Proficiency in Macintosh hardware, Microsoft software, Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • A proven track record of creative ability and judgment, successful client contact experience, the ability to work collaboratively with account management, excellent presentation skills, successful experience in managing copywriters, availability to travel and the commitment to go the extra mile in time and effort to produce the very best work
