The Opportunity:

You will complement the leadership team in our goal to strive for technology excellence while having a mindset of “tech is a people business”. Following our leadership culture, you will empower principal engineers to oversee company wide tech initiatives and facilitate decisions making in order to keep commercetools ahead in creating innovations. 

Please note that for this role, we can currently offer full-remote work for candidates based in the European Union and in the United Kingdom.

Your Mission:

  • Building a team of Principal Engineers, onboard and develop them
  • Ensure Technical Leadership is present in all relevant areas
  • Define clear scope of technical topics and support Principal Engineers to define solution and its reasoning to relevant stakeholders 
  • Improve processes for technical on-boarding and technical learning in the org, orchestrating inputs from respective Principal Engineers
  • Define level of technical and architectural autonomy for the operating teams
  • Strive for clear ownership on upcoming topics with relevant stakeholders and CTO
  • Consolidate input for technical improvement areas from teams and define how to process
  • Process strategic direction and decisions with regards to technical topics of commercetools Leadership team with the platform organisation
  • Define and promote key technical investment areas to teams and/or C-Level
  • Align with internal Platform Leadership Team on common leadership style
  • Define guidelines for Technical Leadership team how to work with customers and ensure that Principal Engineers follow aligned direction/guidelines and speak with one voice to internal customers
  • Oversee and evolve technical growth framework for commercetools and scouting potential candidates for Technical career path in line with Head of Engineering and (Senior) Staff Engineers
  • Advise CTO in all technical aspects and providing direction
  • Foster external perception of commercetools being a technical front-running company with interesting engineering challenges
  • Be technical representative with high value clients
