CodePath is a national non-profit that is reprogramming higher education to create the most diverse generation of software engineers, CTOs, and founders. We deliver industry-vetted courses and career support centered on the needs of Black, Latino/a, Indigenous, and low-income students. About the Thrive Scholar Summer Academy Web Program
The program is designed to give students exposure to and competency in web development tools, concepts, and skills in order to set them up for success in pursuing CS courses at college and future technical career opportunities. Targeting rising college freshman, the program will offer an introductory web development course as part of Thrive’s overall Summer Academy 2 programming in summer 2024.

About The Role

Compensation: $30-$45 per hour
Our Tech Fellows play a critical role in the instructional team, ensuring that students receive the support they need throughout the program. Tech Fellows provide support to both the instructional staff and students. The main responsibilities include providing hands-on support to students during lessons, structured academic sessions, and in designing and executing their own original projects. This role also assists the Instructional Team with classroom management and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is passionate about education and technology, with a deep commitment to providing opportunities for students identifying with underrepresented groups in tech.
The Tech Fellow will be responsible for supporting a world class student experience for the duration of the 5 week program where students learn Code Path’s web development 101 course. In this course, students learn frontend web fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The students will work to bring a website to life with animations as they progress through the program. This website will be centered around a cause they care deeply about, with the project threaded throughout the course. Students apply their learnings to the project, adding new features to their website in each unit. This course is a beginner-friendly introductory course that requires no prior knowledge. The Tech Fellow will support students during lessons and structured academic time, and support students in designing and executing their own original projects.
Responsibilities

Help facilitate and answer student questions during technical lessons on the fundamentals of web development using HTML, CSS, Javascript

Troubleshoot and debug a range of student issues during structured academic worktime thoughtfully and professionally

Develop strong relationships with program participants to support their growth and development throughout the program

Assists the instructor with classroom management and administrative tasks
Requirements

Computer science (or related field) degree, full stack bootcamp certification, or comparable experience working in/learning software development

Strong understanding of core technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript

Nice to have: experience in Angular, React.js, Node.js, and foundational database knowledge. Our ideal candidate has strong familiarity with relational databases (e.g. Postgres, MySQL, etc.)

Classroom support experience working with students, troubleshooting issues, and helping debug

Formal experience working as a web developer in core technologies a plus

Tech nonprofit, startup experience a plus
Compensation
This is a seasonal, part-time (up to 25 hour/week) position.
Candidates will be paid a competitive hourly rate for up to 9 weeks of part time training and program support. Our hourly band is $30 -$45 an hour, and the average compensation for full program participation is $10,000 for the summer program.
Candidate hourly rate is dependent on experience and new staff rarely start at the top of the range.
This position is not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits or paid time-off.
