CodePath is a national non-profit that is reprogramming higher education to create the most diverse generation of software engineers, CTOs, and founders. We deliver industry-vetted courses and career support centered on the needs of Black, Latino/a, Indigenous, and low-income students. Our students train with senior engineers, intern at top companies, and rise together to become the tech leaders of tomorrow.

Founded in 2017, CodePath has taught over 20,000 students and delivered courses across over 85 universities. We are supported by some of the largest and most well-respected organizations, including Andreessen Horowitz, Blue Meridian Partners, Cognizant Foundation, Comcast, Google, Meta, Salesforce, Walmart, and Workday, among others.

We are currently targeted to serve 10,000+ students a year nationwide as of 2023, and are planning to scale up to ~100,000 students a year by 2030.

 

About the Team

The CodePath Emerging Engineer Empowerment (E3) Program is a partnership between Codepath.org and select universities in Atlanta and Miami to integrate into university’s the Codepath proven model to accelerate the progress of computing students and position them to secure technical internships before graduation.The CodePath E3 program is built upon three key pillars:

  • The CodePath E3 Engineer Course Sequence: A golden Program course sequence of both “for-credit" and  “not-for-credit courses designed to help students build the skills and confidence needed to secure paid internships as a core part of their student journey.

  • CodePath Local Career Center: CodePath provides programs and services including 1:1 career coaching, career labs, mentorship, and direct access to exclusive networking opportunities with company partners.

  • Student Community Engagement: Each college/university’s CodePath E3 Program cohort will host a stimulating, tight-knit community of diverse peers who connect virtually with other CodePath E3 Engineers around the country. This helps students build confidence and develop social and professional leadership skills.

 

About the Role

Location: Miami, Florida (Hybrid)

Compensation: $40 per hour

At CodePath, we are building the largest pipeline of high-performing, underrepresented software engineers in the industry. The CodePath Career Center supports this mission by providing college students with career coaching, mentorship, industry connections, and the access to opportunities needed to start a career in the tech industry. Now as we support localized work through the E3 Pathways, we need career coaches to support cohorts in Atlanta and Miami with tailored career coaching support and programming. The Career Center Coach will assist CodePath students  to not only obtain their first “dream job” but also to gain the knowledge and skills needed to build long-term careers in technology. The coach will achieve this directive by exposing students to new opportunities and career pathways in tech, and providing them with guidance to achieve their career goals. The coach will also develop and administer workshops and events that provide students with the general knowledge required to conduct internship and job searches.This contract position is a hybrid role with some in-person coaching activities required. This role will be in two locations: Atlanta and South Florida. Candidates in either location are encouraged to apply. 

 

Key Activities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group career coaching sessions via Zoom and in-person on a variety of topics including resumes, internship search strategies, interviewing, LinkedIn best practices, networking, etc. 

  • Hosting career labs and customized career development programming 

  • Responding promptly and supportively to student career concerns and questions via email or Slack

  • Supporting creation and management of Career Center Career Kit and other materials students can use for self-directed improvement.

  • Holding office hours to advise students in the areas of career planning and decision making.

  • Tracking outcomes of coaching calls, providing detailed notes and information that provide insights to the student experience, mindset, and challenges.

  • Collecting success stories from students and sharing them with the wider CodePath community.

  • Escalate trends and student concerns to the Career Center Director for additional resources or services

  • Monitoring current trends in technical hiring and job search strategies

  • Providing a high level of career coaching support to students enrolled in the E3 Pathways, tracking progress to internship and full-time job obtainment

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications 

  • +2 years of related experience in career development, coaching, and/or advising for technology students

  • Experience working in recruitment, coaching, or technical role

  • Demonstrates a student-first mindset and compassionate communication skills (oral and written)

  • Ability to think critically, analytically and exercise independent judgment

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt in order to meet the needs of the student community

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Proficient with online collaboration tools including Google Suite, Slack, Asana, Hubspot, and Zoom

  • Located in the South Florida area
