JOB SUMMARY 

The Senior Director of Media will lead the strategic direction and execution of all paid, earned, and owned media initiatives to elevate Code.org’s brand and mission. This role is responsible for crafting high-impact media strategies that effectively reach target audiences, managing media budgets to ensure maximum ROI, and forging strategic partnerships to enhance our media presence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Integrated Media Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a unified media strategy that seamlessly integrates paid, earned, and owned channels, ensuring consistent messaging and optimal audience engagement across all platforms to amplify Code.org's mission and organizational goals.
  • Establish and nurture strategic connections and partnerships with media platforms, agencies, and other relevant organizations to unlock new media opportunities and collaborations.
  • Stay at the forefront of media trends and technological advancements, adapting and innovating media strategies to maintain competitiveness and relevance in the digital landscape.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing and creative teams to ensure seamless integration of media plans with broader marketing campaigns and content strategies.

Paid Media Leadership

  • Focus on strategically investing in paid media channels to target specific audiences, enhance visibility, and drive measurable outcomes. Utilize data-driven insights to allocate budgets effectively, continuously optimizing campaigns for maximum ROI.
  • Strategically leverage existing partnerships to maximize opportunities for grants and PSAs, ensuring optimal placement and exposure to support Code.org's mission and amplify its impact on a larger scale.

Earned Media Leadership

  • Maximize earned media opportunities through compelling storytelling, media relations, and influencer partnerships. Aim to amplify Code.org's visibility and credibility by securing coverage and endorsements that resonate with our mission and values.
  • Work collaboratively with partners to co-create and launch impactful campaigns that align with mutual objectives, driving increased engagement and support for educational initiatives.

Owned Media Leadership

  • Implement a dynamic social media strategy across Code.org’s platforms to engage audiences, share insights, and foster community. Oversee the social media / community management team, ensuring active social discussions and participation while maintaining a welcoming environment.
  • Enhance Code.org executives' online presence through strategic use of speaking engagements and social media, positioning them as key voices in computer science education. Oversee the event execution team, ensuring all events align with our mission and enhance our objectives. 

Media Reporting and Analysis:

  • Define clear, measurable key performance indicators (KPIs) tailored to each campaign's objectives, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
  • Develop comprehensive media reporting frameworks to track campaign performance across all channels, utilizing data analytics to provide actionable insights and detailed post-campaign analysis for continuous improvement.
  • Implement ongoing optimization strategies based on real-time data, adjusting media placements, channel focus, and budget allocation to enhance campaign performance and maximize return on investment (ROI).
  • Establish learning agendas for all major campaigns to test hypotheses and new strategies, fostering a culture of innovation and ensuring the media strategy evolves with changing market dynamics.

Media Operations Efficiency:

  • Streamline media operations to enhance campaign execution and delivery, ensuring seamless integration of planning, buying, and real-time adjustments across all media channels.
  • Oversee the precise trafficking of advertising materials, coordinating with creative and media teams to ensure ads are correctly formatted, targeted, and delivered on schedule.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We seek candidates who have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in media planning and buying, with a significant focus on paid media strategies and execution.
  • Proven track record of developing and managing large-scale media campaigns that have delivered measurable results.
  • Strong analytical skills, with expertise in ROI analysis and media metrics.
  • Exceptional negotiation and relationship-building skills.

We prefer candidates who also have:

  • Experience in the nonprofit or education sector.
  • Familiarity with global media strategies and multi-market campaigns.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and guide a team towards achieving shared goals.

In addition, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Be willing to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events

Step 3: Interviews with several members of the Code.org team (~ 3 hours)

Step 4: Final Interview (1hour)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PACKAGE

The expected salary range for this position is $150,000-$170,000. The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, and skillset.
