JOB SUMMARY

We believe computer science should be part of the core curriculum, alongside other courses such as mathematics, biology, chemistry, or algebra!As an Engineer at Code.org, you’ll join a team delivering software products and operating services used by tens of millions of students and teachers in K-12 classrooms around the world.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of our Infrastructure team within engineering, you will:

  • Write code and configure the systems that support the building, monitoring, scaling, testing, securing, and deployment of our product
  • Own projects and build features end to end, and work on exciting technical challenges. 
  • Work with your team, other engineers, product managers, and staff across the organization to build and support accessible and efficient systems. 
  • Ship software regularly while maintaining excellent live site availability. 
  • Contribute to an inclusive, growth-focused, and collaborative team culture!

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer who is able to navigate a comprehensive tech stack with an eagerness to implement systemic improvements. While our core technologies include Ruby on Rails, React, Javascript & Typescript, MySQL, AWS and various 3rd party tools and open source libraries, we welcome expertise in analogous stacks. This role is ideal for individuals who not only exhibit a solid technical foundation but also embody a spirit of collaboration and curiosity towards problem-solving.

We seek candidates who possess a blend of the following skills and experiences:

  • DevOps Engineering: Proficient in AWS configuration and infrastructure management, with hands-on experience in CloudFormation, Chef, and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring smooth deployment and operational workflow.
  • Application & Infrastructure Security: Familiar with risk assessment and safeguarding web applications and cloud infrastructure, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities.
  • Web Application Server Engineering: Familiarity with Unix environments, Docker containers, configuration management tools like Chef, content delivery networks, and basic principles of web session and cookie management all from the perspective of optimizing web server performance.
  • Database Administration and Storage Systems: Experience with AWS RDS Aurora MySQL, S3, DynamoDB, Redshift, and data visualization tools. A strong understanding of database management and storage solutions to support scalable web applications.
  • Site Reliability / Production Engineering: Expertise in incident management, monitoring/alerting systems, and enhancing web-application performance to ensure high availability and reliability of a high-traffic system.
  • Backend Platform Engineering: Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or similar MVC framework, with an understanding of backend architecture, focusing on building robust, scalable platforms.

WHAT IS THE INTERVIEW PROCESS LIKE?

Step 1: Informational Interview - learn more about the role and share your experience (30 minutes)
Step 2: Full Interview Loop & Meet the Team (3 paired interviews, 3 hours total)

  • Cloud Foundations: deploying applications using a cloud provider, designing for scale and security
  • Data Storage: managing multiple complex data storage options
  • Operational Excellence: running a system at scale in production, debugging live-site issues, threat assessment and mitigation

Each interview will include a behavioral question and additional time for the candidate to ask questions

Step 3: Final Interview with CTO  (1 hour)
Step 4: Reference Checks 

All interviews are currently being conducted virtually via Zoom

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PACKAGE

The expected salary range for this position is $145,800 - $162,000. The actual offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate’s qualifications, years of experience, and skillset.
