About the Team
Every second, millions of events are generated across Cloudflare’s network. Using the insights derived from this data, the Edge Data Team is responsible for:
- Driving new feature and protocol development through performance testing
- Understanding the nature of automated clients that use Cloudflare’s network
- Providing actionable data on threat patterns to customers and internal teams
- Using browser telemetry to measure and improve the security of customers’ websites
- Implementation of edge-side features as required
We write most of our application code in Go, use Kafka as our data streaming system, and use a variety of databases and stream-processing frameworks. Edge-side features are implemented in Lua/Nginx.
The Edge Data Team is small and growing which means you will have an impact from day one. We are committed to creating an environment where team members can produce their best work and grow their skillset.
We are looking for capable, motivated people with a deep interest in delivering performance and security improvements at scale.
Most importantly, you have previous experience or an interest in:
- Writing and maintaining services with an eye towards flexibility and resilience
- Building data pipelines that extract meaning from large volumes of data
- Reasoning about, and debugging, the behaviour of distributed systems
- Web security and performance, including protocols and browser features
Experience with Go or another strongly-typed language is required. Experience with Kafka, large-scale data storage, C, or Lua is beneficial but not a requirement. Intermediate knowledge of internet protocols (HTTP, DNS, TCP, UDP) is also beneficial.
