We are looking for a Lead Engineer to oversee AAA technical development at Cloud Chamber. You will be the main technical point of contact for our co-development partners, ensuring seamless development, a coherent technical vision, and shared approach. As our Lead Engineer, under the supervision of the Lead Producer, you will collaborate with Design, Animation, Audio, and Art to manage the development of the game from the ground up.

Job Details:

  • Work with both Internal and External Partners to build a AAA game from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. 
  • Help define technological initiatives and participate in their architecture, planning, development and review. 
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with a high degree of detail with peers, partners, and different cultural groups across multiple disciplines. 
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with our other projects’ Engineering Teams, utilizing their expertise when appropriate.
  • Ensure effective contributions from our Co-Development partners; ensure they are part of the team.
  • Facilitate ensemble code reviews to provide visibility and engagement.
  • Act as a representative on studio wide technical topics.
  • Provide strategic guidance for engineers and technical designers.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and risks to improve the work of the team, the quality of the project and studio knowledge, and technologies as a whole.
  • Work with technical directors, lead designers, narrative and cinematic directors to establish development processes and content creation pipelines.

 Skills, Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 9+ years of programming experience in Unreal Engine with consistent increasing complexity.
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience.
  • Experience shipping multiple AAA Unreal Engine console and PC games.
  • Experience managing external teams.
  • Understanding of risk management principles and demonstrated ability to put them into practice.
  • Customer-service mindset to enable and support our partner’s success while setting clear boundaries of responsibility.
  • Experience with multi-processor programming.
  • Experience working on core engine systems.
  • Experience working on multi-platform software projects.
  • Expert in C / C++.
  • Ability to research, analyze and optimize code to meet performance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under reasonable deadlines.
  • Proven leadership skills and willing to take initiative to communicate, coordinate, and negotiate between different disciplines with kindness and respect. 
  • Excellent organizational and written communication skills.
  • Work ethic focused on dynamism and collaboration.
  • Analytical and strategic thinker with communication skills to express clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical audiences.

This is a fully remote role that may be based anywhere in the United States. Below are the expected salary and wage ranges for applicants based in locations where the pay transparency law is in effect:

Colorado: $143,000 and $250,000 per year
California: $163,400 and $250,000 per year
New York State (inclusive of New York City): $183,800 and $300,000 per year
Washington: $143,000 and $250,000 per year

Base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards and eligibility to participate in our 401(K) plan, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees will also receive 14 paid holidays per calendar year, are eligible to earn a minimum of 15 days of vacation leave per year (subject to proration based on start date during the calendar year) and will receive 10 sick days per calendar year. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, 4 including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
