About the Opportunity 

The Clinton Foundation is seeking a Media Relations Intern from June to December 2024.

The intern will work closely with members of the Communications and Marketing teams, which are responsible for all external and online communications and media relations for the Clinton Foundation and its programs, including the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).

The Communications team manages the Clinton Foundation’s external media relations and press outreach, and advances the work of the Foundation and its programs through owned and earned communications materials and facilitating interviews. The intern will primarily support the Communications staff in the development and execution of press outreach strategies with a focus on the CGI 2024 Meeting in September; monitoring and curating press clips; researching potential interview opportunities; drafting and editing communications materials (e.g. press releases, Newsroom items); and providing other support as necessary.

The Marketing & Digital team manages the Clinton Foundation’s online communications across email, social media, and the website, as well as production of creative assets. The intern will also support the Marketing & Digital staff in planning, developing, and executing social media calendars and assisting the team with brainstorming campaigns. The intern will develop a final project and presentation in collaboration with their manager.

The intern must have excellent time management and organizational skills, and display good judgment to ensure the best possible representation of the Foundation publicly.

Candidates must be located within commuting distance to New York City. The expected hours for this position are 20 hours per week between June – September, and 10 hours per week between October – December. Candidates must be able to commit to staffing the entire CGI 2024 Meeting, happening September 23-24 in Midtown Manhattan.

Core Responsibilities  

Press Outreach and Media Relations:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of press outreach strategies to share the Foundation’s work with external audiences
  • Conduct research for and contribute to owned media content for the Foundation’s Newsroom
  • Create daily content suggestions for Foundation platforms and help maintain editorial calendars for Newsroom and social content
  • Assist in pitching Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) events, updates, and more, in preparation for the CGI 2024 Meeting.

Copywriting, Editing, & Proofreading:

  • Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading materials across various channels, including press releases, program materials, media outreach materials, social media posts, blog posts, and more
  • Proofread and edit various copy and written materials ensuring alignment with all Foundation brand and style guidelines, including AP Style

 General Event Support: 

  • Assist with preparations for the Clinton Global Initiative 2024 meeting as needed, including administrative tasks, research, etc.

Final Project:

  • Work with manager to develop final project in area of interest

Minimum Qualifications  

What we’re looking for: 

  • Must be an undergraduate senior or a graduate student enrolled in accredited college degree program in English, Journalism, Marketing/Communications/PR or related field, or graduated no more than 6 months prior to commencing the internship
  • Experience in writing and editing, professional social media content creation preferred
  • Prior experience in public relations or media outreach for a nonprofit, political organization, or reputable brand
  • Strong writing skills
  • Video skills, including content creation experience with Instagram Reels, TikTok, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across the Foundation, including the Communications team and other initiative teams
  • Creativity and willingness to take initiative and contribute new ideas to the team  
  • Eye for detail, with an ability to carefully proofread various pieces of content and copy in AP style
  • Knowledge of digital content and web writing best practices, including SEO copywriting
  • Familiarity with Office, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with contemporary global issues and/or international relations

Compensation & Benefits 

Our best estimate of the compensation range for this opportunity is $16/hour, depending on the experience you bring. This role is eligible for overtime pay.
