LOCATION: This position is an onsite role, based in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Clif Bar Plant.

Mission: You will be the quality assurance partner to plant management and manage the overall quality, food safety and regulatory standards at the plant. You will work with others to develop and maintain quality systems, which include noncompliance, HACCP, sanitation, GMPs, product review, and internal audits. Supports and represents the company with government agencies, vendors, customers, and recall activities. Responsible for raising food safety and quality concerns to a level of priority to keep needed teams and other plant leadership informed and to lead in an action plan as appropriate.

Responsibilities & Outcomes:

  • Assure that all raw materials, process parameters, sanitation procedures, and finished products comply with Company standards. Work with suppliers to address any non-compliance issues.
  • Manage and audit quality programs and maintain proper documentation including reporting of non-compliance information.
  • Investigate consumer and customer complaints and provide written communication regarding root cause and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead, be an active participant in and support Continuous Improvement and Corrective Action/Preventive Action activities.
  • Assure that HACCP plans are fully implemented and monitored for all production lines. This will include supporting the training of team members in appropriate areas (non-compliance, metal detection, and other prerequisite programs).
  • Ensure robust prerequisite programs are in place, understood by all personnel, and are effective. Validation and verification are expected. Programs to include environmental monitoring, allergen control, GMP's, HACCP, as well as other prerequisite programs.
  • Coordinate the implementation of an effective pest prevention program. Manage any contracted pest prevention personnel to ensure proper licensing and schedule compliance.
  • Lead and participates in internal and external audits to ensure Clif Bar standards are met.
  • Manage organic compliance program for the facility.
  • As site Safe Quality Foods Practitioner, responsible to develop, implement, validate, verify, and maintain the SQF prerequisite, food safety, and food quality systems for the plant.

  • Ability to identify food safety and quality issues, obtain relevant data, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, GMP’s, and quality systems in a low moisture food manufacturing environment.
  • Understands FDA and local regulatory requirements for food safety and quality.
  • Experience in writing standard operating procedures, work instructions, and forms for a Safe Quality Foods manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with previous manufacturing plant or line start-ups a strong plus.
  • Working knowledge of National Organic Program, Kosher, and Rainforest Alliance implementation and compliance.
  • Minimum of 4-year B.S. degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-years’ experience in food manufacturing business in Quality Assurance or production environment.
  • SQF Practitioner certification preferred.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Experience in microbiology preferred.
  • HACCP trained.
