ABOUT YOU:

We’re searching for a Director of User Experience who can help us make better products for our customers. We're looking for someone who can build up our design team, gather insights about our customers, work closely with engineering to ship product improvements, and partner with senior management to shape our company's future.

You are excited to grow, lead, and coach a holistic UX team. You are comfortable managing teams and can build a strong design culture. You know how to source, interview, and hire talented designers, researchers and content strategists. You enjoy mentoring designers on everything from micro-interactions to design process.

You are an expert in digital product design. You have worked with engineering and product teams to build and launch digital products at scale. You are intimately familiar with web and mobile platforms and their constraints. You know how to manage change across an active and passionate customer base.

You are a master of your craft. You can guide the team create desirable, usable, beautiful, and clear interfaces for our customers. You have a deep knowledge of visual design, interaction design, copywriting, and user research to help us achieve these goals. You know what it takes to create a creative process that inspires healthy critique and excellent design work.

You enjoy the startup pace. You’re deeply pragmatic. You know when to polish pixels and when to sketch something rough. You balance quality with speed. You know when to push for a large-scale holistic redesign and when a bit of duct tape will do.

You believe user research leads to better products. You’re comfortable with scrappy methods for learning about customers' behaviors and needs. You can push our teams to prototype and test ideas early. You know how to communicate customer insights across the company so we can all make better decisions.

You want to shape the future. You enjoy working with senior management to map long term vision into next steps. You deftly herd cats and quickly get stakeholders aligned. You identify important challenges that no one has seen yet and rally everyone to solve them together.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience building and managing high-performing product design teams. This is a true director-level role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing interfaces and working with engineers and product managers to ship designs to customers.
  • Experience building products for both consumers and businesses.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary creative teams.
  • Must work from our headquarters in New York City — we offer compensation for relocation if you do not currently live in our beautiful city.
