ClassDojo’s vision is to give every child on Earth an education they love.We are doing this by first bringing together communities of teachers, children and families, and then giving them learning experiences their children love. ClassDojo is a consumer network, and is already serving communities at massive scale: last year we served 1 in 20 children in primary school in the world—50 million+ children—with a team of just 45. The communities we serve love and adore ClassDojo (see what they're saying); our Net Promoter Score is usually in the 70s and 80s.
As a product manager, you are embedded with a team of engineers, researchers, product designers, and other cross-functional partners. You will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from conception, to launch, and ongoing iterative improvements, working at both a strategic and tactical level to create products that teachers, parents, and students love.
What you’ll do:
Turn data, research, and intuition into products that people want and love to use. In the process, you get perspective by exploring divergent directions, converging on feasible, innovative designs, and optimizing for learning each step of the way. Design and ship experiences that are simple and elegant across multiple platforms.
What you'll bring to the team:
You’ve shipped products and led cross-functional teams. You’ve weathered release cycles and know what details matter at each stage, how to motivate engineers to get the fit and finish right, how to translate insights from user studies into meaningful action, and what’s most likely to go afoul at each stage. You can share several shining examples of real work you've shipped, and what you learned along the way.
You thrive best when helping to define the requirements, not just coordinating different functions. You deeply empathize with users and craft experiences that delight them. You facilitate and draw the best ideas from teammates. You have the ability to think at a high level about product strategy and vision (not just 'how it should look' but 'what we should build’) You can think and talk about the bottom line. Analytics don’t scare you, and you know which features can act as force multipliers on your company’s business model. You want to contribute to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product and executive teams.
You possess excellent communication skills (you should be able to clearly articulate your beliefs and win people over to your vision). You like sharing your work, even if it’s still in progress, to bring the team inside of your process. You have a sharp ambiguity filter, always seeking to clarify what is unclear for yourself and others.
You know that shipping doesn’t end after you release. You work with your teams to ensure a culture of continuous improvement, driven by qualitative and quantitative insights. You give and solicit feedback from teammates in order to continually raise our bar for quality.
You feel at home with data and statistics. You have strong quantitative skills and create/refine hypotheses by exploring user data. You’re excited to iteratively improve metrics and you can write your own SQL to monitor product progress and opportunities.
What you’ll need:
Experience in designing, building, and shipping quality consumer apps across platforms.
ClassDojo’s mission is to bring communities together, and give their kids an education they love. Founded in 2011 (ImagineK12 / Y Combinator) and based in San Francisco, California, ClassDojo started as a communication app: a simple way for teachers, families, and children to share the magic of the school day through photos, videos, and messages. It creates a close-knit classroom community, and exciting, inspiring and creative classrooms and homes for kids. We’re one of the fastest growing education companies of all time, used and loved by tens of millions of teachers, families and children in 90% of K-8 schools in the US, and 180 other countries. We believe focused, talented, non-hierarchical teams can achieve a surprising amount: https://blog.ycombinator.com/its-surprising-how-much-small-teams-can-get-done-sam-chaudhary-of-classdojo/. Our team is global, with deep backgrounds in education, and has helped build companies like Khan Academy, Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Lyft, Uber, Facebook, LinkedIn, Y Combinator and more. We’re building a company that we hope will transform education for every child on Earth, and one that is the kind of place we’ve all always wanted to work, too. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here.
