As a Design Lead, you'll be embedded with a team of engineers, researchers, product managers, data scientists, brand marketers and other cross-functional teammates. You will be involved in every aspect of product development and brand development, from conception through launch and scale, working on both strategy and tactics to create products that teachers, kids and families love.
What you’ll do:
You’ll create a high-performing design organization at ClassDojo. This will include furthering our ‘consumer science’ culture, collaborating closely with peers in engineering, product, analytics and marketing. You’ll build delightful, strategic products and experiences, and a brand people love - and in time, you’ll build a world-class design team that can do that for a long time to come.
What you'll bring:
Cross-functional product development experience
You work effectively with cross-functional teams to rapidly and effectively research, build, and iterate on high-quality consumer products. Your design process is holistic, and includes user research, data-driven insights, eliciting team buy-in and rigorous iteration. You can share great examples of real work you and your teams have shipped, and what you’ve learned along the way.
You identify and refine the right problems to solve for our users. You have the ability to think across the full spectrum about product strategy and vision - from strategy down to tactical details. You work effectively with leadership and teammates to shape product strategy, and execute on product directions that can act as force multipliers on that strategy.
You continuously seek to make your teams more effective. You proactively identify and drive new initiatives - for instance, a substantial new product direction we should invest in - and rally people towards those ideas so that they are successful. You are excellent at connecting your team to purpose, and ensuring everyone understands the 'why'. You are relentless about improving your team’s thinking and performance, so they are more effective today than yesterday.
You know that design doesn’t end after you've shipped. You work with cross-functional teams to ensure our products maintain and deepen product-market fit with our users. You both give and solicit feedback from other designers in order to continually raise our bar for quality. You have a strong grasp of design fundamentals, and you pay attention to core experiences, as well as all the edge case experiences.
You take on projects or initiatives that are hard or messy because it’s the most important for the company. Fill holes and gaps within the team and work on important team-wide initiatives such as tackling big process improvements, overseeing training/onboarding programs, or helping drive towards important decisions.
You possess excellent, structured communication skills. You are able to clearly articulate your design decisions. You share your work early - when it’s still in progress - to bring the team along with you. You have a sharp ambiguity filter, always seeking to clarify what is unclear for yourself and others - you bring clarity, energy, and inspiration to ambiguous topics.
