An Assistant Environmental Services Director job is available with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department / Business Services Division. The Environmental Services Department works to protect public health, properties, and environmental and natural resources through effective management strategies, public education, and engagement with the community to create a clean, safe, and green city. It safeguards against pollution through litter prevention and reduction efforts and improved waste management. Teams are committed to environmental stewardship practices and behaviors through compliance, pollution prevention, sustainability, recycling, and reuse.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field,
- Six (6) years of management experience relating to environmental services or a related field
- Two (2) years of administrative and supervisory experience.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expert in municipal budget preparation and administration principles and practices to prepare and present reports, budgets, and communications.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, orally, visually, and in writing.
- Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns, and needs.
The Assistant Environmental Services Director's job responsibilities include:
- Directs the department's activities, including planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards.
- Supervises staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring staff are trained. Leads the departmental human resource section, ensuring employees follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
- Participates in developing and administrating the department’s annual budget; forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; recommends projects, monitors, and approves expenditures and revenues; and implements budgetary adjustments, as needed.
- Represents the Environmental Services Department to other departments, elected officials, and outside agencies; coordinates assigned activities with other departments, agencies, and organizations; and negotiates and resolves sensitive and controversial issues.
- Enforces applicable City codes and ordinances; develops or modifies ordinances, as needed; oversees assigned special projects involving litigation; serves as liaison with legal staff; and appears in court, mediations, and hearings, as needed.
- Participates in a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; and prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence.

Physical Demand
Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
