Workdays & Hours: This is a seasonal position and will work up to 40 hours a week with no benefits. Weekends, evenings and holidays are required.

The City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department is recruiting multiple Natural Resource Assistants and is available for The City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department Nature Center & Refuge location. The Park & Recreation Department maintains approximately 300 parks and public spaces citywide as well as provides recreational activities and educational programming that makes Fort Worth a great place to live, work and play.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 16 credit hours from an accredited college or university with major coursework in natural or physical science, including biology, geology, botany, range management, environmental science, forestry, or a related field.
- No direct experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on natural resource management.
Natural Resource Assistant job responsibilities include:
- Support wildlife conservation efforts by monitoring, managing, and protecting native species, including bison, prairie dogs, alligators, and other wildlife found within the Refuge.
- Assist with habitat management and ecological restoration projects through prescribed burning, mulching, herbicide application, seeding, and other land management techniques.
- Maintain and repair equipment, facilities, trails, and infrastructure across the Refuge, utilizing skills in welding, power tool operation, chainsaw use, and heavy machinery.
- Collaborate with staff on routine operations, special projects, and volunteer initiatives to support the Refuge’s mission and enhance visitor experiences.
- Help lead overnight camping experiences that include activities such as camping, fishing, and paddling, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for participants.
- Perform facility opening and closing duties, patrol the Refuge, and enforce safety protocols to maintain a secure and welcoming environment for visitors.
