The City of Fort Worth Police Department is recruiting Police Cadets who are at least current High School graduates interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement. These are paid, PART-TIME, non-civil service positions designed to provide persons interested in a future career as a Law Enforcement officer the opportunity to work in the law enforcement environment. Cadets perform a wide variety of public safety-related duties in support of the Police Department. These positions offer flexible working hours in between 7:00am to 5:00pm.
Requirements:
- Applicants will be required to pass a physical fitness assessment prior to employment. (This test will include: 1.5 mile run in 17 minutes, 20 sit-ups in 1 minute, 5 push-ups no time frame but cannot break plank form, and 500 meters on a rowing machine in 2:50 minutes)
- Work hours will be limited to a maximum of 19 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must be at least a High School graduate between 18-25 years of age.
- Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s license required.
- Resume required.
- Letter(s) of recommendation are highly encouraged.

- Partial Tuition Reimbursement for students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university (up to $1,500 per year, after 6 months’ probation period);

Working Conditions:
Final candidates selected for hire in the Police Department will be subject to a drug test, fingerprint/criminal history background and driving record check.
Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
Conditions of Employment
Candidates who do not meet the Education requirement, may be considered if they have more relevant work experience than the position requires. Those selected for employment will be required to pass Pre-Employment checks depending on the position requirements. Those could include, but are not limited to: criminal background check, drug screen, education verification, etc. Criminal convictions will be considered on a case by case basis.
