JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, delivery, security, migration, and operations of our VMware and SAN/NAS environments.
JOB DUTIES:
- Design, build and administrate virtual and bare-metal infrastructure and associated services including desktop, server, storage and network-related infrastructure.
- Provide expert guidance and implementation of standards for design, best practices, and configuration management across the hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Perform storage administration including provisioning, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Help maintain security compliance and ensure that processes and procedures follow organizational and industry standards.
- Implement effective service monitoring, maintenance programs, and foundational system design with a global perspective.
- Provide excellent support, including clear verbal and written communications to both technical and non-technical people.
- Management and collaboration with key cloud infrastructure vendors and partners, both internal and external.
- Part of on-call rotation.
- Proactively maintain and expand working knowledge of industry trends and technical developments in related areas.
- Serving in events that occasionally take place outside typical business hours (nights and weekends).
- Provide mentorship to Junior Engineers.
EDUCATION:
B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 4-5 years of experience in designing, building and supporting systems in a multi-platform high performance production environment.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems and systems management (e.g. Windows Server, Linux, OSX).
- Strong knowledge of VMWare and of high performance data storage solutions whether SAN, NAS, or Clustered (e.g. Quantum StorNext, Isilon)
- Knowledge of AWS Elastic cloud computing EC2, Amazon Simple Storage Service S3 and Route 53 a plus.
- At least one scripting language in your toolbox (e.g. Python, Powershell, Bash).
- Knowledge of local and networked file sharing protocols (e.g. SMB, SMBv3, NFS, CIFS).
- Knowledge in config management (e.g. Puppet, Ansible, Salt).
- Knowledge of systems monitoring, reporting, and logging systems (e.g. Zabbix, Grafana, Graylog).
- Must have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to create solutions to complex problems.
