Job Summary:
The Positive Behavior Support Specialist generally functions under the supervision of the School Climate Manager and provides support in monitoring student behavior, school work and maintaining order. A Positive Behavior Support Specialist must abide by all professional behavioral expectations and should act as a positive role model for the students.
Essential Functions:
Provides direct in-class support services to students, classrooms, and small groups
Creates a positive, constructive environment for students in a classroom setting with an emphasis on aligning student behavior with the behavioral expectations of our students
Assists the School Climate Team in implementing school-wide practices and procedures
Participates in Safety meetings as requested by school leadership
Completes written reports as requested by the school Principal, School Climate Manager, or other members of school leadership as necessary
Maintains accurate case records and documentation
Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and abides by said laws and regulations with emphasis on persons with disabilities, child welfare, mental health, confidentiality, and student and parent rights
Shares and interprets information about students to the student, their families, and staff
Participates in in-service activities and staff meetings promoted by the school
Provides interventions to targeted students to increase responsible behavior and reduce negative behavior including but not limited to small group and one-on-one interventions
Communicates with student’s parents, other district employees, and other school personnel to build and implement a strong support mechanism for the student
Documents, maintains, analyzes, and discusses data with the student, parents, and others to determine the impact of the interventions
Participates in monthly discipline data meetings
Provides individual and/or group social skills training (i.e. pro-social communication, anger management, conflict resolution, etc.) to students
Implements the Behavior Intervention Program
Works directly with students who are put out of class, restoring them, and helping get them back to class
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma, Associate’s Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred
Experience working with children, preferred
PA State Police Criminal Record Check
PA Child Abuse History Clearance (ChildLine)
FBI Fingerprint Check
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Using interpersonal skills with tact, patience, and courtesy
Student Code of Conduct and the School’s Disciplinary Code
