Job Description

The VP of Hardware Engineering will be responsible to lead and manage the hardware development for all hardware products and teams. This includes managing and mentoring the Hardware Engineering Teams in their day-to-day roles in bringing complex products to life, as well as high level strategic guidance in product roadmap to define and create the future of small kitchen appliance technology products for Chefman and CHEF iQ. This role will be for a key leader on the technology team, working with a multi-disciplinary team to bring new technical products to market. The role is for someone who is passionate about pushing the limits of what's possible and working with top-notch partners. The ideal candidate will work closely with the executive team to provide new product direction, drive alignment around product initiatives, and manage various aspects of implementation by working directly with the engineering teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

The VP of Hardware Engineering will be responsible for the following efforts:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor all Hardware Development Teams. These include:
    • Mechanical Engineering Team
    • Electrical Engineering Team
    • Firmware Engineering Team
    • Systems Engineering Team
    • Compliance Management Team
    • Quality Assurance and Sustaining Engineering Team
    • Testing Engineering and Test Kitchen Teams
  • Provide strategic direction and recommendations for complex, highly technical products that will require iteration and scale over time
  • Provide perspective, guidance, and decision making from very detailed technical minutiae to 30k foot strategic views
  • Engage with all other relevant technical teams including Product & Experience, Project Management, Software Engineering, UX/UI Design, Industrial Design, Culinary, Video, Photography, Sales, and Marketing Teams to determine the best technical implementation method and scheduling impact
  • Involvement in the business, strategic, and feasibility analysis of related products, technologies, and potential partner relationships
  • Organize, maintain, and be responsible for the technical product roadmap
  • Communicate routinely and effectively with executives as well as the technical teams
  • Understand and provide direction for the product lifecycle management
  • Consider the entire ecosystem while making decisions, from technical implications to business needs, time to market, engineering trade-offs, and more

Required Skills

  • Experience designing and manufacturing electronic and small electrical appliances (kitchen appliances is preferable)
  • Experience bringing products from concepts to commercialization
  • Experience in small scale to high volume manufacturing
  • Strong project management skillset, agile exposure is a major plus
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to provide resource planning, project status and scheduling information to project management team.
  • Technical knowledge in engineering including firmware and hardware development
  • Experience directing and mentoring cross-disciplinary engineering teams in design and engineering best practices
  • Knowledge of Smart Sheet or Microsoft Project
  • Ability to connect a broad set of experiences and skills to a newly developing technology ecosystem
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve strategic goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years product management experience with a proven record of successfully launching products
  • Experience running complex projects with multidisciplinary teams (Software, Hardware, Firmware, Mechanical, Electrical, Quality, Sustaining, etc.)
  • Experience with all aspects of new product development, from design inception to mass production, including PCB layout, prototyping, circuit debugging, design validation, electro-mechanical packaging, thermal management, and end-product testing
  • Deep understanding of software, firmware, and hardware interaction
  • Experience designing products in a development gate process
  • Advanced user knowledge of MS Office and Project Management tools
  • Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and risks within a contracted commitment
  • Extensive experience in a leadership capacity
  • Experience interfacing with factories in China
