CRA's European Competition practice specialises in providing economic advice on matters of competition policy and regulation.  We assist firms and their legal advisors in all types of competition proceedings: firms considering merger and acquisition opportunities or involved in merger control proceedings; and firms undergoing investigations relating to cartels, restrictive commercial agreements, abuse of dominance or state aid.  We also provide advice to firms involved in regulatory proceedings and sector inquiries. We offer assistance on the estimation effects of damages in cartel cases, international arbitration and intellectual property disputes.

Position Overview

Candidates will be expected to rapidly take on genuine responsibility, assisting Vice Presidents and other senior staff by providing conceptual and practical input to competition case work as required. The role brings with it the possibility of working on some of the largest and most significant competition cases in Europe, playing a key role in the shaping of the cases.

Desired Qualifications

  • Candidates for these positions must have a first degree in economics and a PhD/DPhil in economics from well-regarded institutions; with a strong foundation in microeconomics, preferably with a specialisation in industrial organization and/or statistics/econometrics. We are particularly interested in hiring PhDs with experience working with large data sets and therefore empirical PhDs, regardless of the subject topic, are highly valued. For those with non-empirical PhDs a focus on Industrial Organization is an obvious advantage although not essential;
  • Non-PhD applicants should have strong academic achievement in a Master's program plus several years of relevant experience in consulting, business, or with a competition authority;
  • We are interested in hearing experienced Consultants who have prior consulting and competition policy experience.

Work Location Flexibility

We currently ask that individuals spend at least 3 to 4 days a week on average working in the office (which may include traveling to another CRA office or to a client’s location). The specific days may be determined in coordination with your practice or team. There may be times of the year (e.g. over holiday periods) when additional remote work options are offered to those whose work commitments permit it, although our offices will remain open for those who choose or need to be there.
