Consultants in CRA’s Energy Practice have researched, published, taught, and consulted on energy matters for more than 30 years on behalf of a wide range of private and public energy sector clients. Our clients include many of the world’s foremost energy companies, private equity and infrastructure investment firms, as well as government entities. We have assisted utilities in addressing strategic issues related to resources, advised on developing the structure of national and regional competitive markets, reorganized multi-billion-dollar companies, testified in hundred-million-dollar damage litigations, and played a key role in most North American utility mergers and acquisitions that have taken place over the last decade. The Energy Practice’s North American offices are in Washington, D.C., Boston, Toronto, and New York.

We are seeking qualified candidates with relevant analytical and technical qualifications to join our team in a consulting role. Masters or Ph.D. degree required in an applicable quantitative field.

Responsibilities

  • Developing quantitative analyses of energy issues and models of energy markets
  • Communicating insights and explaining results of analyses to clients
  • Data collection and analysis, often using sophisticated models, many of which have been developed by the CRA Energy team. For example, we develop modeling techniques to analyze emerging issues such as energy storage, renewables integration and the impact of distributed generation on the future of the electric grid
  • Economic and financial analysis of potential energy investments, transactions and client strategic initiatives
  • Assisting in the production and development of research summaries, expert reports, and the presentation of findings 
  • Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of analyses 

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD required in an applicable quantitative field, such as operations research, economics, engineering, or finance
  • Strong interest in the energy and environmental sector is required, and previous professional experience in the energy industry or consulting is a plus
  • Direct experience with Python or other programming languages is a plus, as is a background in probability and experience with optimization, simulation, or econometric models of energy markets
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation and communication skills 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to provide mentorship and supervision to junior staff members
