The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg in 2015 to help solve some of society’s toughest challenges — from eradicating disease and improving education to addressing the needs of our local communities. Our mission is to build a more inclusive, just, and healthy future for everyone.

The Team

At CZI, we pair technology with grantmaking to equip educators, families and students with tools that integrate high-quality research, practices and content to unlock the full potential of every student, no matter who they are or where they live. From program conception to software feature design, we center our work on student and educator voices to help educators address the day-to-day challenges in their classrooms.

Since 2015, our grant investments have helped catalyze new tools, practices, and measures designed to foster whole-child outcomes. We leverage technology to provide research-based practices in products that help teachers connect with students and tailor learning experiences to individual student needs.

At our core, we are builders and our unique builder philanthropy approach is what sets us apart from other education funders. Take a closer look at the highlights and significant milestones of CZI’s first eight years of education work.

  • Empower the ecosystem: Help create and maintain APIs that enable educational technology partners to integrate and utilize Edu Graph data seamlessly.
  • Ensure data integrity: Develop tools and frameworks for data quality assurance and graph validation.
  • Unlock the power of AI: Collaborate with AI/ML teams to enable advanced capabilities like intelligent content recommendations and standards alignment.
  • Bridge the gap between technology and pedagogy: Partner with product and education teams to translate pedagogical requirements into effective technical solutions.

What You'll Bring

  • Data pipeline pro: Strong experience building reliable data pipelines and ETL processes to handle diverse educational data sources.
  • Cloud and systems savvy: Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems to ensure scalability and performance.
  • Programming proficiency: Proficiency in Python, Java, or similar languages commonly used in data engineering.
  • Ontology architect: Experience designing taxonomies and ontologies for representing entities and relationships within knowledge graphs.
  • AI/ML enthusiast: Experience applying Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and Large Language Models (LLM) for content understanding and knowledge extraction.
  • Team player: Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Technical leader: Experience mentoring other engineers and driving technical decisions.
  • Passion for education: A genuine desire to leverage technology to improve learning outcomes for all students.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
