Central Operations & Partners consists of our Brand & Communications, Community, Facilities, Finance, Infrastructure/IT Operations/Business Systems, Initiative Operations, People, Real Estate/Workplace/Facilities/Security, Research & Learning, and Ventures teams. These teams provide the essential operations, services, and strategies needed to support CZI’s progress toward achieving its mission to build a better future for everyone.

The Opportunity

The Social Media and Digital Marketing Director role is an opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced digital strategist to lead the development and execution of impactful social media campaigns, content, and strategies while driving the growth of a fast-paced and innovative organization's digital presence. This role reports to the Head of Brand and Communications and is an integral part of the Brand + Communications team, which works to build trust, credibility, and engagement to inspire audiences to champion and contribute to our mission.  In this role, you will direct the creation of  shareable digital content, compelling social storytelling, and innovative digital marketing strategies to help build awareness and engagement around the impact of CZI’s work.

The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with a deep understanding of the digital landscape. You are a skilled storyteller and creative strategist who can work across the organization and with multiple stakeholders to build content and campaigns that drive engagement and expand our reach. You have a proven track record of success in developing and implementing comprehensive social media and digital marketing strategies, including expertise in multimedia content creation, community management, audience engagement, paid media, and analytics. Most importantly, you are adaptable, collaborative, and eager to continue to learn and innovate.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media and digital marketing strategy that aligns with the organization's mission, priorities, and target audiences.
  • Oversee  the creation and distribution of high-quality, engaging content across a variety of social media platforms, ensuring consistency with brand voice and messaging with an emphasis on innovative, social-first video creation.
  • Develop and execute  comprehensive digital marketing strategies tailored to meet CZI’s B2B, B2I and B2D objectives, drawing on a deep understanding of key marketing areas including Brand, Email Lifecycle, Content and Performance Marketing to drive cohesive and impactful campaigns.  
  • Use your strategic mindset and excellent writing and editing skills to shape innovative and authentic content on complex topics for diverse audiences across multiple channels, including social posts, video scripts, graphics, toolkits, creative briefs and strategic communication plans.
  • Lead social media community and risk management, fostering meaningful interactions with followers, and proactively engaging with relevant influencers and conversations when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and direct external agencies and partners in the development of integrated digital campaigns that leverage social media, email marketing, website content, events and other channels to achieve maximum impact.
  • Identify and build relationships with key influencers and partners to amplify the organization's message and reach new audiences.
  • Review and analyze social media and digital marketing performance, using data to inform strategy, optimize campaigns, and demonstrate ROI.
  • Stay abreast of emerging social media trends, platforms, and technologies, and experiment with new approaches to improve results.
  • Manage and mentor a team of social media and digital marketing professionals, providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for growth.
  • Develop and execute strategies for elevating the social media presence of executives and thought leaders within the organization.
  • Travel on occasion to meetings, events or on-location production shoots as necessary

What You'll Bring

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in social media and digital marketing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • A deep understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, trends and best practices.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the proven ability to craft compelling content on complex topics for diverse audiences, including innovative, social-first video content.
  • Specific experience producing social content for a science-related organization is strongly preferred. 
  • Proven experience in developing and executing successful social media and digital marketing campaigns across various platforms in collaboration with multiple teams, external partners, influencers and agencies. 
  • Experience in managing executive social media presence and developing thought leadership content.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights.
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.

Compensation

The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $193,000.00 - $290,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market.
