Role Summary
Censys is seeking a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to develop and maintain the next generation of the Censys platform. You will be adding new features to support mission-critical workflows, fine-tune the current functionality of our existing platform, and enhance the user experience for an evolving set of user profiles who find Censys’ world-class data critical to their job
What You’ll Do
- Plan user-facing features with engineering, product, and design teams.
- Build well-tested frontend components (Typescript and React).
- Work with designers and the Censys design system to create robust user experiences.
- Integrate with existing backend APIs.
- Build, test, deploy, and monitor code automatically.
- Work in iterative development cycles.
- Investigate how we can provide actionable insights for users based on our world-class data.
What You’ll Bring
- 3+ years of professional experience building web applications, APIs, and frontends.
- Highly skilled with React or a React-based Framework (Next.js, Remix, etc.), based primarily in TypeScript.
- Experience with both Server Side Rendering (SSR) and Client Side Rendering (CSR) techniques, and others such as Progressive Hydration and Island Architectures, including understanding the tradeoffs between different techniques, and when to apply them to provide the best user experience.Experience and passion for design, leveraging CSS and styling techniques to work with UX to build both functional and beautiful UI components.
- Experience building and working on-top of web APIs such as RESTful JSON, GraphQL, and others. Experience with backend languages such as Golang or Python is not required but will make you stand out.
- Familiarity with the HTTP protocol, with a good understanding of how to leverage newer HTTP features such as Websockets, HTTP/2, Early Hints, and others to provide a pristine user experience.
- Familiarity with front-end build processes, and ability to interact, debug, and improve build systems based on Webpack, Vite, Esbuild, or similar.
- Familiarity interacting with the web-backend, including interfacing with microservices over IDLs such as gRPC.
- Familiarity with SQL and/or other database engines such as document stores, to retrieve and manipulate stored data.
Bonus Points
- Experience building and deploying web applications to Kubernetes, and familiarity with a Cloud-based environment, such as AWS or GCP.
- Comfortable working in a continuous delivery-based environment, with CI/CD.
- Has an eye toward code organization for testability and maintainability.
- Thrive in a fast-paced startup environment where changes happen quickly and loose requirements are defined, and where priorities may change rapidly to suit business needs and success.
- Can contribute to our culture of learning and personal ownership. Can take ownership of systems, projects, and issues, admit mistakes, and work to improve over time.

- Must be a strong communicator. Explaining complex technical concepts to other engineers, designers, solutions engineers, PMs, and content marketers is no problem for you.
Our target salary range for this role is between $139,650 - $180,500 + bonus eligibility and equity.

Our roots are in Ann Arbor, Michigan with location hubs in Seattle, the Bay Area, and Tysons, VA. Our innovation is fueled by the team’s global perspectives. For this role, we are looking for candidates based in one of our four hub locations: Seattle, WA, Los Altos, CA, Tysons, VA, or Ann Arbor, MI and will be required to go into one of the offices on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a third day of choice.
