Overview
As the Director of Data Science at Carbon Direct, your role is at the heart of technological innovation in carbon management. Leading the integration of cutting-edge data science, machine learning, and AI into our products, you will drive advancements in decarbonization. Your expertise will not only enhance our capabilities but also open new avenues for impactful carbon management solutions. Your role is pivotal in merging top-tier information technology with groundbreaking concepts. Collaborating with our leading science team, you will play a key role in developing digital technologies that are at the forefront of decarbonization possibilities, delivering tools that are both powerful and user-friendly.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Platform Data Team, expanding platform capabilities by leveraging Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI to provide innovative decarbonization solutions.
- Partner with members of the Carbon Data Science team to develop, integrate, and deploy cutting-edge scientific models into our decarbonization platform.
- Drive the platform data science life cycle, enhancing our product offering, and enabling our clients to decarbonize effectively and efficiently.
- Lead data engineering efforts and implement data operations processes, championing data quality, consistency, accessibility, and usability.
- Draw from your experience to make timely and effective technical decisions for tools and solutions (e.g., build vs. buy).
- Lead cross-functional data projects, raising the visibility of impacts, keeping contributors aligned, and effectively communicating statuses with stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Extensive data science experience.
- Ideally, has experience applying a wide range of math modeling, ML concepts, and AI algorithms to solving business problems.
- Embodies thought leadership, leveraging data science methodologies to pioneer groundbreaking solutions via software.
- Experience leading and managing cross-functional data science projects.
- Experience working with software development teams.
- Proficiency in Python and R; familiar with ML libraries (e.g. pandas, TensorFlow…)
- Knowledge of cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., BigQuery, Hadoop, Spark) and data storage and retrieval paradigms.
- Comfortable managing hybrid-remote, multidisciplinary teams staffed by data analysts, data scientists, and/or data engineers.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate advanced concepts into terms that non-technical or non-expert stakeholders can readily understand.
- Background in climate and carbon management is a plus.
- Experience with data governance projects is a plus.
Salary
$170,000-$230,000
