CarbonBuilt is seeking a process engineer to join their rapidly growing team. The successful candidate will work alongside the core engineering team, with regular travel to customer and system fabrication
locations. The candidate is expected to meet predetermined project goals and timelines.
The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in process design and scale-up,
ideally related to process design and engineering of gas processing. They will work as part of a
small team to complete the detailed design of a process that utilizes gas streams that contain CO₂
to carbonate a novel concrete mixture design. This position will initially report to CarbonBuilt’s
Head of Engineering.
Job Description and Primary Responsibilities
Developing design package as a foundation for gas processing system engineering and fabrication
Developing simulation models for process optimization and gas system scale-up
Developing equipment/instrumentation sizing and specifications
Developing site configurations and specifications for commercial carbonation systems
Collaborating with external engineering design and system fabrication teams
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and support production
Validation of design and system performance with on-site commissioning and test runs
Bachelors or Masters degree with at least 3-7 years of relevant professional experience in gas processing.
In-depth understanding of heat and mass transfer and process reactions to develop a process flow diagram (PFD)
Experience in identifying system instrumentation and developing a piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID)
Skilled using ASPEN simulations (or equivalent process design and optimization software) to optimize and scale up a process design
Ability to translate data from lab- to industrial scale to inform system design
Ability to identify, select and size process equipment
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
This is a full time on-site position based in Torrance, CA (Los Angeles Metropolitan Area), with the expectation of regular travel to customer and system fabrication locations.
The salary range for this position is $120,000 USD to $170,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company’s compensation practices.
