We are seeking an experienced Managing Director to lead our newly established Mumbai office. This senior-level role will oversee our operations in India, focusing on business development amongst Indian conglomerates  and the Indian offices of large foreign price equity firms, client relations, and leading a team of high-achieving analysts and editors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in government policy and consulting, coupled with robust business development experience and a thorough understanding or prior experience working in or with Indian government policy. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for business development amongst India conglomerates and the Indian offices of large foreign private equity firms
  • Manage the Business Development (BD) process for Capstone’s India office; identify and execute key BD initiatives and commercial opportunities, track and report on revenue and lead flow.
  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities through cold calling, pitch preparation and delivery, due diligence, email campaigns, in-person meetings and referrals. 
  • Lead and manage a team of analysts and editors to achieve revenue goals, conduct in-depth policy and financial analysis and deliver a high-quality, bespoke product to our clients.  
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Indian government policy, including regulatory frameworks, policies, and decision-making processes. Demonstrate understanding of how Indian policy changes can impact financial markets, industries, and businesses.  
  • Develop and drive strategies for revenue growth and market expansion. 
  • Develop and nurture positive client relationships, actively engage with clients and solicit feedback. Ensure a robust engagement strategy for key relationships are in place. 
  • Professionally represent Capstone and effectively build relationships with key stakeholders, including politicians, regulators, policymakers, and clients. Drive brand awareness.  
  • Lead talent development efforts and build a high-performing team. This includes identifying top talent, providing training and development, and driving individual/collective success.  
  • Stay abreast of market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes to provide timely and relevant research to our clients. 
  • Collaborate with Headquarters in DC and other offices to leverage insights and best practices. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 10+ years of managerial experience in equity research, Indian policy analysis, consulting, or investment banking. 
  • Experience working for US/UK-based companies preferred.  
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of analysts to deliver high-quality research and insights.
  • Deep understanding of Indian policy and financial markets, investment strategies, and industry dynamics, with a keen eye for identifying investment opportunities and risks.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts and insights to clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in business development and client servicing.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think creatively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Passion for combining policy, politics, and investing.
  • Eligibility to work in Mumbai without employer sponsorship.
