Role

Capella Space is looking for a talented (Senior) FPGA Design Engineer to join our FPGA team to develop FPGA designs and firmware for spacecraft.

This role will require close collaboration with the spacecraft software engineering team to define interfaces between the spacecraft flight computer and various subsystems, including storage, communication, and flight systems.

The successful candidate is a person who will have experience contributing to design, development, support, and test efforts to meet requirements and who is comfortable working in a fast paced start up.

You will be involved in a variety of tasks including HDL development, hardware bringup and testing, implementation of new features, and general upkeep of our current systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience developing HDL for FPGAs
  • Experience writing HDL (System Verilog preferred) and developing high-throughput digital signal processing designs
  • Experience developing HDL for Xilinx FPGAs including AXI
  • Experience with FPGA development tools (Vivado preferred), timing closure techniques, and development procedures
  • Experience developing clocking architectures including clock domain crossing
  • Experience with FPGA simulations (ModelSim/QuestaSim preferred)
  • Experience using git revision control software
  • Ability to work with both hardware and software engineers to meet the system requirements
  • Ability to work with project managers to organize and plan the FPGA effort
  • Comfortable using lab equipment
  • This position requires special access to conduct the work and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.

Desired Qualifications (Not All Are Expected):

  • Experience with Xilinx Zynq/MPSoC (RFSoC)
  • Experience with interaction between programmable logic and processing system
  • Experience integrating 3rd party IP cores such as NVMe
  • Experience writing FPGA code to communicate with and control hardware
  • Familiarity with both high and low speed communication protocols (Aurora, PCIe, DDR, SPI, I2C, etc.)
  • Git branching and merging
  • C/C++ and/or Python experience
  • Experience writing bare-metal code on Zynq architectures
  • Unit and regression testing
  • Experience with radar systems
  • Knowledge of encryption standards
  • Board bring-up experience
