Canvas is bringing automation to the construction industry. Our mission is to leverage technology to empower current trade workers to be dramatically more productive and free from repetitive, physically taxing, and dangerous tasks. Our small but growing team has spent the past two years engineering and developing a brand new type of machine. Now, we are deploying on commercial job sites.

Canvas is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is inspired by the challenge of creating new automation tools for the construction industry. This position will be responsible for designing and fabricating new components and subsystems. You will work closely with our field operations team to understand their needs and constraints.
Someone in this role needs to be highly detailed-oriented and like working on tracking BoMs . This person will also be making product drawings, creating quick prototypes, and testing to evaluate the performance of the system quickly.
Who You Are:
Have a B.S. Degree in Engineering or related field
2+ years of work experience
Experience in hardware development and deployment
Comfortable using common shop tools to fabricate prototypes
Proficient in SolidWorks, or similar tool
What You'll Do
Build and maintain system BoM's
Draw packets for vendors and internal fabrication of parts
Design system components given broad requirements
Refine broad requirements through testing, observation of use, and brainstorms
Create tests for evaluating the performance of components and collect thorough data of results
Work closely with our field team to collect feedback on the system and understand their needs
Fabricate and assemble prototypes of parts and sub-systems
Communicate across multiple disciplines from business to software to create an integrated robotic system
Own design and fabrication tasks
Create documentation of design to enable your design to be replicated and improved upon

This role operates primarily in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers and monitors. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some ability to move laptops, open cabinets and bend or stand as necessary is required.
