Job Summary

Canonical is the company behind Ubuntu, the fastest growing,  and most widely used Linux distribution to date. The project’s aim is to reduce barriers to innovation globally by providing free access to an open technology platform.

The Cloud DevOps division of Canonical produces a suite of Ubuntu-based products for configuring, deploying, and maintaining cloud infrastructure across all major clouds (public and private).  Field Engineering then takes these products and deploys them on-site for a wide range of enterprise customers. The Solutions QA team is responsible for the quality of those products once they are integrated together and configured as they would be for production deployments. This includes product interactions, deployment environments, and end-to-end workloads.

As an Engineer in Solutions QA, your responsibilities will include developing and implementing new features in enterprise grade telecom software, automation for deploying Canonical’s Cloud products, new tests, testing strategies, and process improvements that directly impact the success or our enterprise cloud deployments.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team
  • Contribute to opensource projects
  • Deploy, manage, and debug highly distributed systems
  • Develop and implement automated test suites/CI infrastructure
  • Develop re-usable tools for deploying Canonical’s cloud products
  • Execute, monitor, and report on existing testing efforts
  • Expand existing, and develop new functionality for telecom infrastructure
  • Identify, isolate, and document bugs clearly and concisely

Required skills and experience

  • Degree level education, preferably in a technology field
  • Minimum of 2 years programming/scripting
  • Solid understanding of Linux system architecture
  • Expertise in Python and Shell scripting
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and fundamentals
  • Strong communication and cooperation skills
  • Understanding of how to be part of a distributed team
  • Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and abroad (10%)
  • Interest in working closely with customers
  • Involvement in open source projects in the past

Preferred skills and experience

  • Experience with cloud technologies (Openstack, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with application deployment technologies (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Juju)
  • Experience with containerization, such as LXD or Docker
  • Experience with Debian and/or Snap packaging
  • Interest in the Telco sector and working with Telco related technologies
