ABOUT THE ROLE

This unique position includes internal business practices and external consulting with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.  This role will be instrumental in supporting our markets, practices and clients’ efforts to design processes, spaces and workplaces that are inclusive and reflective of the diverse communities in which we live, work and serve. This role will contribute thought leadership in designing and implementing a framework and programs around client-wide and community-based initiatives around equality. 

 
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Accelerate and accentuate Living-Centered Design through the intentional alignment of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Cultural Excellence in pursuits, projects and client-focused work across all service areas and markets.
  • Deliver high quality project work and meet/exceed client expectations with your expertise in Indigenous Communities, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Cultural Excellence. You will wow our clients through fantastic and inclusive work and continue to differentiate our service offering in the marketplace.
  • Assist with development and implementation of Indigenous Participation Plans to meet the Government of Canada’s objectives of encouraging Indigenous socio-economic development through federally funded opportunities, as part of business development, RFP responses, pursuits interviews, and project implementation. In this role, you will:
    • Develop long-term, lasting, meaningful and sustainable socio-economic benefits for Indigenous persons and Indigenous businesses across Canada.
    • Have meaningful engagement with Indigenous peoples across Canada
    • Assist CannonDesign with effort to leverage training opportunities, employment, sub-contracting and capacity building for Indigenous Businesses and Peoples and stakeholders on Federal projects.
  • Plan, facilitate, or assist with community engagement, including thoughtful inclusion and consideration of Indigenous Peoples from pursuit to close, leveraging strategic planning expertise to advance service capabilities and delivery. Advance clients’ objectives through an insights-driven, future-focused and outcomes-based perspective.
  • Provide strategic guidance through the lens of environmental, social and governance (ESG) on topics such as Governance / policy practices that are aligned to a purpose driven culture, Social / economic promotion to create value and equity for people and operations.
  • Inspire and challenge leaders to uncover new insights and identify ways to address the nuanced and complex elements of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Culture in the planning and delivery of consulting and design work that impacts or involves Indigenous People and Communities.
  • Assist with business development and client relationship management in consulting, planning, and design engagements including those related to population health, community building and resilience, and efforts related to eradicate disparities in education or health. Create meaningful, long-term relationships with clients / users through excellence, integrity, and reliability.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and / or research. Speak at local or national events to enhance the CannonDesign / Blue Cottage of Cannon Design brand.
 
ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in organization psychology, organizational development, public health, social work, business or related field.
  • At least 3+ year of work experience as an Indigenous Inclusion Consultant, DEI Consultant, Diversity Officer or experience as a liaison, ombudsperson or partner to a Diversity Officer with 10 – 15 years of overall work experience.
  • Good working knowledge of anti-discrimination and equal employer opportunity legislation, policies, initiatives, and workplace strategies.
  • Experience in developing and leading seminars or workshops about diversity, equity and inclusion or previous consulting experience with diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the elements and dynamics of organizational change. Experience leading or participating in significant organizational change.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Business acumen and proven ability to execute strategy.
  • Professional acumen and maturity demonstrated by the ability to communicate authentically and respectfully.
  • Well networked with appropriate diversity, equity and inclusion organizations and involved in the community in which you live.
  • Approximately 50% travel internally, to clients, and for external events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Any additional certifications and/or training relevant to the role.
