What You'll Do

Calm is seeking a Brand Marketing Lead to shape and execute our brand marketing efforts with emphasis on social media strategy, driving engagement and conversation while solidifying Calm’s position as the leading brand in mental health. Reporting to the VP, Brand Marketing, this role is at the intersection of social media, brand strategy, partnerships, and public relations. You’ll oversee Calm’s social presence across all platforms, manage key platform relationships, and collaborate with internal and external teams to create standout content and campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences.

The ideal candidate is a passionate storyteller with a strong understanding of brand initiatives that drive measurable impact for the business. They bring expertise in driving earned-first, social-centric moments and thrive on creating trendsetting content that aligns with Calm's mission to make mental health resources accessible to all.

We are hiring remote workers for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, or Minneapolis areas. At this time, only candidates in these locations will be considered.

  • Social Media Strategy and Execution
    • Develop and lead Calm’s social media strategy across all earned channels, including Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads, YouTube, and Facebook, to grow audiences and drive meaningful engagement
    • Collaborate with the PR team to ideate and execute earned-first, social-led campaigns that generate buzz and media coverage around brand and cultural moments
    • Create content strategies for major initiatives, such as new product launches, in-app content releases, talent partnerships, and brand campaigns
  • Brand, Partnerships, and Earned Activations
    • Collaborate with Calm’s Brand and Communications teams to ensure a cohesive narrative across social media, marketing, and PR efforts
    • Manage relationships with key social media platforms (e.g., Meta, TikTok, YouTube) to unlock innovative tools and strategies for audience engagement
    • Maintain a consistent drumbeat of brand-building initiatives that drive awareness and keep Calm top of mind in the competitive wellness space
  • Creative Collaboration and Content Development
    • Partner with Creative, Content, and external agencies to develop best-in-class, on-brand social content that pushes creative boundaries
    • Lead the vision for social creative concepts, briefing teams and ensuring flawless execution of campaigns
    • Stay ahead of trends, identifying opportunities for Calm to lead cultural conversations and capitalize on real-time moments
  • Public Relations and Communications
    • Work closely with PR to craft campaigns that blend social media and earned media to amplify Calm’s brand story
    • Lead the social strategy for high-impact announcements, partnerships, and collaborations, ensuring alignment with Calm’s broader communications goals
  • Data-Driven Insights and Optimization
    • Monitor, analyze, and report on social performance metrics to optimize strategies and content in real-time
    • Collaborate with Calm’s analytics and insights teams to refine future campaigns based on key learnings and audience behavior

Who You Are

  • Social Media Expert: 8+ years of proven experience leading social media strategies in fast-growth environments, with a track record of creating culturally relevant, buzzworthy campaigns
  • Brand Storyteller: Strong understanding of brand marketing, PR, and their intersection with social media to drive holistic, impactful narratives
  • Passion for culture and bringing earned-centric, social-first ideas to life for brands
  • Innovative Creator: Exceptional eye for social content and creative trends, with a passion for pushing boundaries and taking risks
  • Collaborative Partner: Skilled at working cross-functionally with Creative, Content, PR, and Marketing teams to align strategies and amplify campaigns
  • Data-Driven Strategist: Ability to leverage insights and analytics to inform decisions, optimize performance, and deliver measurable results
  • Agile and Resourceful: Comfortable switching between strategy and execution, managing multiple priorities, and leading a small team with speed and efficiency
  • Passionate Advocate: Deep enthusiasm for mental health, wellness, and culture, with a commitment to advancing mental well-being through storytelling and brand-building

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in the mental health or wellness space

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in social media, brand marketing, partnerships, or communications, with demonstrated leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills

Calm uses a geographic pay model that determines salaries based on the location where an employee lives. For this position, the base pay ranges across Calm’s pay tiers is as follows: $117,000 - $214,00. The base pay range represents the low and high end of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, experience and other qualifications. Calm uses employee zip code to determine which pay range applies. This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits + 401k + flexible time off.
