We are hiring remote workers for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, or NYC areas. At this time, only candidates in these locations will be considered. 

 

What You’ll Do

We are looking for an exceptional attorney who is passionate about regulatory and compliance counseling and committed to advancing Calm’s mission of making the world a healthier and happier place. As Regulatory Compliance Counsel, you will dive into meaningful and mission-critical projects to ensure organizational compliance with domestic and international legal frameworks. You will ensure that Calm practices privacy-by-design and that its data governance framework is robust. You will advise on applicable healthcare regulations and ensure that Calm’s products align with global consumer protection rules. This role will report to the Sr. Product and Regulatory Counsel and will work hand-in-hand with cross-functional stakeholders throughout the organization, including members of the product, engineering, security, people, and operations teams.

  • On a daily basis, help surface, scope and drive legal work streams and create processes related to ensuring compliance with domestic and international laws.
  • Work cross-functionally to develop and implement privacy-by-design principles.
  • Identify applicable laws and regulations, assess compliance vulnerability and risk, provide actionable advice, and develop and implement action plans to mitigate potential risks.
  • Assist in the review and assessment of new products, features, and uses of data to assess compliance with laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating consumer notices, terms of service, and privacy policies. 
  • Monitor and anticipate developments in the regulatory landscape.
  • Create and advise on policies, processes, systems, and internal controls necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements related to products and data, employment matters, and corporate structure.

Minimum Requirements

  • This role typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience 
  • At least 5 years of experience as an attorney advising on regulatory compliance in some or all of the following areas:
    • Product and corporate compliance for global on-line services (US, EU, APAC)
    • Privacy (CCPA, CPRA, MHMD, GDPR, FTC)
    • Healthcare (HIPAA, Medicaid, Medicare)
    • Consumer protection
    • Employment

The anticipated salary range for this position is $166,700 - $233,400. The base salary range represents the low and high end of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, experience and other qualifications. This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits + 401k + flexible time off.
