Job Description.
Cajal is seeking a Scientist motivated by Cajal’s mission to develop new medicines for patients with neurodegenerative disorders. Our team members thrive on the uncertainty of an ever-changing and fast-paced environment in a pre-clinical biotech company. As a Scientist at Cajal, you will help build our spatial ‘omics / in situ sequencing platform into a robust assay for target discovery.

● Work with our engineering team to develop a robust platform for in situ sequencing of barcode transcripts and endogenous mRNA
● Integrate the in situ sequencing technology into target discovery workflows, processing samples from animal models and human cellular models of disease
● Expand the in situ sequencing platform to enable capture and identify novel transcripts including virally-delivered

Required education and experience:
● Have experience with neuroscience and neuroanatomy, in particular with cryosectioning, ISH, and IHC on brain tissue
● Expertise in next-generation sequencing techniques
● Sound understanding of nucleic acid primer and probe design/validation
● Have 4+ years of molecular biology laboratory experience, including work with cell culture, viral transformation, RNA extraction, and real-time quantitative PCR
● Have demonstrated experience with molecular biology protocol development and optimization
● Have a BA, BS, MS, PhD or equivalent in a biology-related field.

Preferred qualifications:
● Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
● Demonstrated experience designing functional synthetic nucleic acid oligomers
● Knowledge of CRISPR technology
● Familiarity with laboratory automation
● Demonstrated experience developing and streamlining documentation workflows
