Byteboard has redesigned the ineffective technical interviewing process to be more reflective of what engineers do on-the-job through a project-based approach. We help high-growth companies, like Lyft, Betterment, and Figma, scale their engineering teams through a more effective, efficient, and equitable interview that’s loved by candidates and hiring managers alike.

Who we're looking for

You’ll join as our first marketing hire to support Byteboard’s customer growth and reach the people who make decisions about how hiring works for their companies (most often: engineering and HR leaders). These customers have distinct needs when it comes to understanding Byteboard and what the product can do for them. From thought leadership to sales enablement to competitive positions, you’ll work in close partnership with co-founder and CEO Sargun Kaur, as well as Byteboard’s design, product operations, and sales teams. Through this work you will have great opportunities to impact the future of Byteboard.

Our ideal candidate will bring a customer perspective to all company programs and initiatives and be able to expertly communicate across Byteboard’s business and technical teams. They have the ability to operate and execute swiftly in the weeds while also zooming out to plan long-term strategy.

What you'll do at Byteboard

In the next 12 months, you will focus on:

  1. Brand Development & Thought Leadership
    • Create and maintain a content calendar that supports the asks of candidates and customers
    • Write and develop engaging content that effectively translates Byteboard’s core values to our users
    • Co-create and run our marketing campaigns (including SEO, social media, virtual events programs and content)
    • Build localized content, including sales enablement collateral and customer reference content
    • Finds opportunities for Byteboard to be published in relevant publications
  2. Develop a Go-to-Market strategy
    • Develop, lead, and execute marketing initiatives and campaigns for our target audience, such as:
      • events (conference sponsorships, trade shows)
      • partnerships with professional organizations
      • webinars for candidates
      • content creation
      • content marketing partnerships
      • customer advisory communities
    • Develop concrete ways to measure marketing initiatives using processes like sentiment tracking and lead conversion tracking and redirect efforts

Required

  • 3-5+ years of marketing experience at a high-growth tech company.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills, and you are an excellent storyteller.
  • You have experience leveraging a portfolio of marketing channels and tactics (organic, email, paid social, video, paid search, etc) to run effective cross-channel campaigns.
  • You have a strong bias to action and a sense of curiosity. As a fast-growing company, everyone’s scope is big and we’re always doing something new.
  • You have an owner’s mindset — you can lead through ambiguity and dig into the details to solve.
  • You are creative, yet you have a data-driven mentality.
  • You use numbers to drive your decision-making, but you also have an eye for design and creative.
  • Available for collaborative work Monday - Friday from 10am-3pm PT (regardless of location).
  • Are authorized to work in the US or Canada and located in the US or Canada.

Pluses (but not required)

  • You have prior experience in specifically B2B marketing at a high-growth tech company.
  • You have already seen a startup grow and learned what did and didn't work.

Byteboard’s product philosophy echoes in our interview process. We’ll dive deep into your past work experiences and have you work through exercises focused on the skills you’ll need to be successful day-to-day as a marketer at Byteboard.

About the Founders

We met at a social enterprise themed Startup Weekend at Google in Dec 2017. A conversation around building more diverse technical workplaces turned into an hours-long session about our own experiences in the tech industry. Sargun was a Software Engineer on the Google Photos team at the time, and Nikke was a Product Manager on the Google Shopping team.

That one conversation led us to researching and surveying our peers on their experiences with technical interviews which led to the idea of interviews that actually evaluated for on-the-job skills and well, it’s been almost 4 years since. We’ve had exec coaches since the start and continually push each other to be better leaders and peers. We’re product-oriented, quite scrappy when necessary, and sometimes are way too extra when making decks (among other things).

Nikke is originally from San Diego and recently gave up her California lifestyle to move to New York to feed her three obsessions: theatre, salsa dancing, and Levain Oatmeal Raisin cookies. Sargun lives in the Bay Area, where she grew up, but the pandemic has thrown her into a nomadic-life so you might find her in New York, Portland, or Punjab; she is a stress baker, an artist, and in love with her golden retriever August. Nikke and Sargun share a mutual love for fine dining, exceptionally aesthetic AirBnbs, and contemporary romance novels.
