Fresh Services, an internal Buyers Edge Platform brand resource, is the operational arm of the Fresh Division as a whole. Our team provides food safety and quality assurance, cutting-edge technology solutions, central billing services, a produce support team, marketing innovation and a full implementation and pricing team. This position is hybrid based out of our Bannockburn, IL or Downtown Chicago, IL office. We are unable to offer work sponsorship for this role. 

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. This role requires a thorough understanding of accounting processes and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.

Your impact:

  • General Accounting:
    • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
    • Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
    • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Process overhead payables and responsible for treasury activities.
  • Understanding of intercompany transactions and able to assist in ad-hoc projects as needed.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Audit & Compliance:
    • Coordinate and support external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit requests.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain and update internal control documentation.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting operations.
    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes and systems.

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred, but not required.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in public accounting or a similar industry is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite).
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
