📣 A bit about the role.  

At Butternut, our mission is to deliver health and happiness to dogs everywhere. This year, we have some exciting things in the pipeline to help us achieve this mission. We have big plans. Huge*.

And to help us achieve these plans. we’re going to need a much bigger team, which is why we are on the hunt for a wonderful wordsmith to join the Squad as our new Junior Copywriter.

Reporting to - and working alongside - our Senior Copywriter, you’ll also work with the rest of our Brand & Creative team to help us write and create some important stuff for our brilliant customers to enjoy.

Each day is different at Butternut (that’s all part of the fun) but our new Junior Copywriter’s day to day tasks will include stuff like:

  • Promoting and protecting our unique Tone of Bark. 
  • Writing excellent words (of course) for customer marketing (emails, marketing materials, event signage & props, blogs) and our digital channels (Search engine marketing, Paid social, website UX). 
  • Coming up with concepts and ideas that are not just word-focused but visually led too.
  • Proofreading, and being a stickler for detail and good old-fashioned grammar.
  • Challenging the status quo. The rules are, there are very few rules, so we need someone who can bring the ideas that we’ve never even thought of.

👋 A bit about you. 

Must haves

  • Having a natural talent for writing clear, concise and grammatically flawless copy for marketing channels like email, digital, and events.
  • Possessing a witty and imaginative mind and way of writing (Our puns are only the tip of the iceberg). 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build great relationships with everyone you work with.
  • Some experience managing projects from start to finish in a timely and efficient way.
  • Eyes like a hawk and an attention to detail that Columbo would be proud of.
  • Being unapologetically yourself, whatever that may be. We’re not looking for carbon copies here - we are looking for someone who can bring something different to our table. 
  • Empathy and kindness. We are a team of people who genuinely care, so being kind is a non-negotiable. And as well as that, we need someone who has empathy so that they can easily put themselves in the shoes of the person they are writing copy for.

 

Brucie Bonus points if you have:

  • A portfolio of work that shows off your word skills - everything from short and snappy copy to longer form editorial work. 
  • An understanding of performance-based advertising.
  • An understanding of the commercial needs of a business.
  • Experience of working to tone of voice guidelines.

At Butternut, we put the food back into dog food. We believe dogs deserve to eat the healthiest, most natural and tastiest food with none of the nasties. That’s why we make freshly prepared dog food. Cooked like you would at home. Delivered in perfect portions.

Our goal is to help dogs live healthier, happier and longer lives whilst leaving humans smiling after every interaction. We’ve come a long way since our co-founders (Kev & Dave) hand-delivered the first Butternut Box, we now feed a lot of dogs across the UK - but we want to feed dogs everywhere. And to do this, we need a team of brilliant people who share that ambition to come and work with us.
