About the Role:
We are seeking to hire a Controller based remotely, with a preference for the Bay Area, CA.
The Controller will be the key owner of daily accounting operations. This individual will be responsible for the financial statement close, internal and external reporting to investors, and upgrades to accounting and other financial systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Owning various accounting processes (accounts receivable and billing, accounts payable and cash management) to ensure a rapid and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial close
- Manage and review preparation of all balance sheet account reconciliations.
- As a Controller, you'll also be a subject matter resource for existing and emerging accounting policies and principles, and assist with the drafting and/or review of technical accounting positions and policy memos as necessary
- Coordinate annual tax preparation with outside tax firm
- Manage annual renewal of non-benefit corporate insurance policies and act as liaison between insurance brokers and company for non-benefit related needs
- Generate monthly reporting packages to ensure accuracy of financial information, including follow-up and resolution of any potential variances identified
- Review payroll and act as backup for some HR functions
- Manage ad-hoc projects as assigned, such as system implementation and cross-functional process improvements
- Supervises treasury functions including management of bank accounts, investments and banking relationships, ensuring compliance with internal controls, the Company's table of approval authorities and approved investment policy. Supervise company credit card administration
Qualifications:
- BS in Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant required
- 7 years of experience; Big 4 public accounting experience a plus
- Experience with revenue recognition rules (ASC 606) - specifically regarding connected devices or hardware with embedded software
- Previous experience as a Senior Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller level
- Experience with Quickbooks + Fishbowl, Carta, Hubspot, and Brex preferred
- Experience in system implementation such as Netsuite or Salesforce
- Experience in reporting and managing banking relationships
- Demonstrated record of highest professional ethics; ability to work proactively with all levels of the organization; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with an external accounting team and moving the function in house
Salary: $175k-$200k
