OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE: 

Under the general direction of the Superintendent and Chief of Academics/Educational Services, directly manage and oversee the school’s instructional and cultural programming; foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that promotes the social-emotional development of all students; plan, implement, and supervise all programs, staff, and services; liaison with current and potential BCS families; coordinate with key school personnel to support the mission of the school. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Instructional Leadership:

  • Maintain a culture of instructional excellence, focused on data-driven instruction, individualized student growth, and culturally-relevant pedagogy
  • Supervise and evaluate teachers in accordance with the school instructional and evaluation framework.
  • Utilize data to analyze program and classroom effectiveness, and identify areas of improvement
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress and academic performance to ensure that all students are making academic gains
  • Conduct daily classroom observations to analyze instruction, directly coach instructional staff, including a focus on classroom management, long term planning, pedagogy, etc.
  • Hire all instructional site-based staff and oversee staff retention on site
  • Collaborate with the MTSS team to identify students who require additional support, conduct assessments, and develop personalized intervention plans
  • Collaborate with key internal partners (e.g. Chief of Academics/Educational Services and Director of Special Education) to ensure student success at all levels 

School Culture:

  • Model the mission of BCS through a supportive, positive, and joyful student culture
  • Develop and implement restorative practices in and outside the classroom
  • Establish systems of expectations in and outside the classroom and coach teachers and students on meeting these expectations
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among all stakeholders involved in supporting student development and well-being.
  • Collaborate with parent leaders and other key non-instructional partners to uphold a positive culture on site at all times
  • Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion

Community

  • Collaborate with parents, community members, and stakeholders to build strong relationships and partnerships that support student success
  • Attend school-wide events in evenings and on weekends, as applicable
  • Develop and utilize various communication channels (e.g., newsletters, emails, parent conferences) to keep parents/guardians informed about school activities, curriculum updates, and opportunities for involvement.

Leadership and Vision: 

  • Develop clear school goals around academic and cultural performance metrics, including both staff and student outcomes
  • Continue professional growth through participation in regional and national professional development and leadership organizations.
  • Collaborate with the other site principals on a daily basis to achieve aligned outcomes
  • Lead the school leadership team, in collaboration with the other site principals, to defined outcomes 
  • Participate in additional representative opportunities as assigned
  • Exercise decisive leadership in critical situations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • You have a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred)
  • You possess a valid California teaching credential and administrative credential (preferred)
  • You have 5+ years of teaching experience (required)
  • You have 3+ years of leadership experience (preferred)
