Position Overview 

The following Director role seeks to develop new business opportunities, membership, consulting, and project execution from our Singapore office to address Singapore and APAC (excluding Mainland China and Japan), providing high value to BSR members and other leading companies that are interested in improving their sustainability performance.  

  • Business Development: Directors build deep relationships with senior executives and business leaders, and they develop new business opportunities from Singapore and the region with the companies.  
  • Project Direction: Project Directors deliver consulting services to BSR members/clients in Singapore and APAC, depending on business needs, and direct several projects simultaneously. Project Directors lead project teams to effectively achieve project objectives, outcomes, and impacts; establish the standards by which the project will be guided, including managing senior team members; and support team members’ learning and skills development.
  • Thought Leadership and External Representation: Directors represent BSR to external audiences by presenting at conferences, writing publications, forming external partnerships, and creating other opportunities to raise BSR’s profile more broadly within Singapore and in the region. 
  • Member Services: Directors manage key member relationships and provide member support to drive recruitment and retention for the Singapore office. Directors may be required to provide services to companies outside of their region depending on business needs. 
  • People Management: Create an environment that fosters and values ongoing learning and where team members consistently push for improved team performance and productivity. Provide honest and constructive feedback to team members to support their ongoing development. Lead discussions at team meetings to shape organizational outcomes and impacts culture.
  • Practice/Team contribution: Translate and implement BSR’s strategy in alignment with practice and cluster priorities. Contribute to BSR’s strategic direction and decision-making.
  • Communication: Frame arguments within the broader industry or issue discourse, referencing other important work in the area and applying industry- and/or issue-specific language to reinforce BSR’s credibility and expertise. Facilitate complex group processes to achieve goals with large and/or senior audience members (e.g. driving decisions, managing conflict, and achieving a high degree of consensus).  

Compensation

At BSR we have implemented a transparent total compensation framework with an emphasis on internal equity. In order to maintain our equity, our starting salary range for this position is $137,062-$200,000 (plus 10% Bonus Target). The salary is in Singapore Dollars.

Qualifications

BSR is seeking a candidate who has significant business / industry experience, ideally with focusing on sustainability strategy (ESG disclosure/reporting regulations, materiality analysis, etc) and a plus with climate change, nature and the following qualifications:  

  • More than 10 years of experience or equivalent education and experience for sustainability  
  • Significant business experience in Singapore and or APAC including in the private sector or other relevant institutions required, including the ability to generate regional based business opportunities
  • Significant sustainability expertise focusing on sustainability strategy (ESG reporting/disclosure requirements, materiality analysis) and a plus with climate/nature.  
  • Advising and directing multiple projects at the same time and under tight deadlines and deliver for internal or external clients.  
  • Recognized local leader with direct sustainability experience, thought leadership and relevant external representation with the private sector, public authorities and key local stakeholders  
  • Proven leadership skills, including a demonstrated ability to mentor other team members.
  • Collaborative mindset and the intellectual agility to work with companies in various industries.  
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of fluency in English, with fluency in a second Asian language a plus. 
  • Self-motivated with a capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced environment. 
  • Willingness to undertake up to 25% business travel
