.About the role:

BAT is in a dynamic and exciting period of growth. This role will play a vital role in the organisation’s development through managing and expanding a portfolio of trust and foundations able to give up to £50,000 annually and providing critical support across the Programme Fundraising team. The role will be responsible for both developing new business and managing a small portfolio of existing funders. The post-holder will be responsible for directly securing income for BAT’s Livelihoods, Education, Child Protection, Conservation, and Mental Health programmes in South Asia.

The role is suitable for a proactive learner who is looking to learn from a senior fundraising team and develop their skills for progression. As well as managing and growing their own portfolio of donors, the role will support the wider Programme Fundraising Team to achieve organisational targets by supporting the development of a range of written materials for the team, larger bids, reporting and research where required, oversee the coordination of actions ahead of networking event relevant to fundraising purposes, and supporting the development and implementation of the team’s systems and processes.

About the Team: 

The Programme Fundraising Team seeks to build long-term relationships with trusts and foundations, companies, and statutory bodies in line with BAT’s organisational fundraising strategy. Working closely with senior leadership and our colleagues in the UK and South Asia, the team raised over £5m in new income in 2022, while managing over £6m in existing grants, and has ambitious growth targets over the next five years. The role of Programme Fundraising Officer will play a key part in enabling the team to achieve even greater results for communities across South Asia. 

Main responsibilities:

Identify and secure new funding from trusts and foundations to meet organisational targets:

  • Proactively contribute to a research plan to identify the most promising prospective donors for BAT’s programme priorities.
  • Build strong working relationships across the organisations to develop and implement creative and effective engagement strategies and cultivation plans, based on the research.
  • Work collaboratively and productively with programmes teams and other relevant BAT staff to develop and submit funding applications up to £50K value
  • Ensure all internal processes are followed in the development and sign off of new communications and proposals.
  • Manage and maintain effective prospect records and pipelines on the CRM database (Salesforce)

Effectively steward and grow a portfolio of 4 and 5 figure funding partnerships:

  • Maintain and grow a portfolio of small to medium trust and foundation donors by ensuring excellent donor care.
  • Produce individual stewardship plans, bespoke communications and compelling funding applications in order to deepen engagement and increase support.
  • Ensure effective grant and partnership management, including thorough reporting and delivering against other partnership commitments.
  • Maintain appropriate donor records (on the CRM database as well as Sharepoint), including Donor Thank You Letters, MoUs, Payment receipts, Meeting notes, and Communication records.

Provide cross-team support to achieve the organisation’s fundraising targets:

  • Research and qualify prospect donors in our database and beyond, providing information and insights to relevant fundraisers, as well as carrying our due diligence as required, on funding opportunities.
  • Provide coordination support for organisational meetings and internal/external events as required, including scheduling meetings, capturing and disseminating notes and actions, and other activities as required.
  • Provide support with proposal and report writing within the team, as required, and wider administrative support, including managing the CAF America portal and other central platforms and portals.
  • Work with relevant Programme Team and the Communications Team members to develop Programme Fundraising materials (incl. funding proposals and 1-2 page concept notes) for use by a variety of internal stakeholders when engaging with donors.
  • Support the development and implementation of systems, processes, and practices necessary to ensure that we deliver first class management of our funding partners.
  • Monitor progress against team plans and provide the Senior Programme Fundraising Manager with regular updates on performance against income targets and other KPI’s.

Other:

  • Ensure the fundraising activities that the role is responsible for are compliant with relevant legal and best practice guidance.
  • Be an enthusiastic and passionate advocate for the British Asian Trust, promoting and communication our key values and mission statement in order to inspire new funders around our work and vision.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and events.
  • Actively contribute to and support wider BAT activities and initiatives, particularly with regards to income generation and communications.
  • Consistently demonstrate the values and principles of BAT in all its activities.
  • Other duties as required by the line manager commensurate with the post.

Person Specification and Job-related knowledge, skills and experience

Essential:

  • Experience of a donor facing role within a fundraising team with understanding of donor relations, requirements and priorities.
  • Experience of producing high quality written communications, compelling emails, proposals and/or reports.
  • Knowledge and interest in international development issues and South Asia.
  • Experience maintaining and building relationships with important supporters and/or stakeholders.
  • Experience of multi-tasking, prioritising activities and managing own workload.
  • Experience of working under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Experience of working collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, adapting style and approach to stakeholder needs.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with donors and suppliers
  • Competent in working with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Proactive, enthusiastic and results driven.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing needs and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and/or days at weekends for events.

Desirable:

  • Proven success in securing high value gifts/grants of £10,000+ from trusts and foundations or other high value donors.
  • Experience in working within the charity sector and in particular for international development related causes.
  • Experience of working and negotiating with suppliers.
  • Knowledge of GDPR legislations and best practice in data protection.
  • Experience working with a fundraising database, such as Raisers Edge or Salesforce.
