Client Service Department Overview

Bridgewater believes that the key to our success lies in creating meaningful, long-lasting relationships with our clients. To this end, Client Service works closely with our clients to help them not only broaden their understanding of the company’s investment process and products but also to deepen their understanding of the financial markets more generally. Over and above traditional client service organizations that focus on selling products, Bridgewater’s Client Service group operates as an advisor to clients on their entire portfolio, not just the portion under management at Bridgewater.

By providing exceptional transparency and reporting on portfolios, Bridgewater’s market outlook and performance, risk management analysis, and advisory research, Client Service helps clients solve their most pressing investment problems and plan their investment strategies. The group frequently meets with clients to discuss portfolio performance, give updates on recent research, provide guidance and training on Bridgewater’s pioneering work in such areas as risk budgeting, alpha and beta separation, portable alpha, optimal beta, currency overlay, and global inflation-indexed bond investing; and assist in developing strategies that best meet client needs.

Client Investment Research Pillar Overview

The Client Investment Research pillar is responsible for producing the investment content that drives excellent experiences for our clients and supports Bridgewater’s goals.  The investment professionals in the group act as Bridgewater’s in-house investment advisory arm.  They are responsible for partnering with Client Advisors to provide clients with advice, knowledge, and insights to address their most challenging investment questions as well as producing leverageable content tied to our commercial strategies. 

About Your Role

We are seeking a Chief of Staff, who will partner directly with the Head of Client Investment Research, as well as the team that helps to manage the Pillar, as their thought partner across all our Pillar initiatives. The Chief of Staff should be comfortable supporting internal operations, executive partnership, and navigating ambiguous problems while helping create, define, and execute a clear strategic road map.  Their role will own the coordination of such strategic initiatives at the highest level across key senior managers in Client Service.

The Chief of Staff is responsible for helping the senior leaders achieve their tactical and strategic objectives. A key element of this role is ensuring continuity of work and timely completion of key tasks amidst a range of competing priorities and timelines. Execution success will depend on attention to detail, comfort with ambiguity and a proactive mindset.

You will drive the following responsibilities:

  • Understand the goals and priorities of the Client Service department and partner with the Client Investment Research management team on how to visualize achieving both near-term and long-term goals.
  • Design and run the Head of Client Investment Research operating model.  
  • Set and advance the weekly priorities; synthesize and advance monthly priorities for the team.
  • Become the central point person of most workflows that interact with Head of Client Research.
  • Organize key meetings with internal and external teams, ensuring follow-ups and action items are addressed promptly and appropriately prioritized.
  • Visualize, design, and run central team machines (IL, reviews, transparency, employee surveys) and own one-off / bespoke projects as needed.

  • Are an excellent communicator in written and verbal form; able to influence across multiple levels and multiple functions of an organization in a concise manner.
  • Have strong stakeholder management, able to build relationships with many different stakeholders and roles across the org, understanding the respective priorities and areas of focus of those within and outside the pillar.
  • Well-rounded in your ability to understand conceptual, plan strategically, and get very specific and practical.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and an ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, tasks, and priorities with minimal errors.
  • Can deal with a fast-paced environment and stay on top of it, keeping the team organized and aware of what’s happening as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of working experience with a focus on business operations, project management or program management.
  • Highest level of integrity, emotional intelligence, and management of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Adaptability / flexibility in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proven ability to thrive in an ambiguous and complex environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Compensation Band:

The wage range for this role is $175,000 - $275,000 inclusive of base salary and discretionary target bonus. The expected base salary for this role is 70-90% of this wage range.
