Breeze’s Senior SMS Programs Specialist is responsible for taking action in response to safety-related events (i.e. incidents, accidents, and safety occurrences) that occur during airline operations using data-driven systems, based largely upon scientific principles and operational knowledge. The Senior SMS Programs Specialist conducts safety risk analysis, trend analysis, manages data sources, and develops new methods to identify risks, emerging trends, hazards, or company exposure to negative outcomes. They conduct analysis to allow for continuous monitoring and management of safety risks associated within the operational environment. This role also supports all Safety Programs in addition to the safety duties listed below.

Here’s what you’ll do

  • Collect and analyze safety event data to raise awareness of operational risks and to facilitate the application of corrective actions that mitigate those risks
  • Assist in the administration and management of the Safety Reporting System, safety reports, safety risk assessments, and root cause analysis
  • Assist in facilitating and the administration and management of Breeze Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP), development of ASAP, facilitating Event Review Committees, and track and trending of events and recommendations
  • Acquire, analyze, and present shared and reported safety information with subject-matter experts and department leadership via cross departmental communications
  • Assists with Safety Programs such as ASAP, OSHA, FOQA, Fatigue, IEP and safety reporting
  • Prepare reports that include the facts, analysis, conclusions, findings, and recommendations associated with reported events
  • Conduct research in support of event-specific regulatory issues
  • Responsible for managing the Safety Reporting System software for permissions, access issues, system improvements and trouble ticket tracking  
  • Assure corrective measures are executed and tracked to final resolution
  • Evaluate safety report data and create reports identifying trends and risks
  • Track and trend monthly and yearly metrics
  • Assist all Safety Divisions and ad-hoc Safety Department Projects
  • Assist in the development of company policies and procedures
  • Develops and maintains required safety training syllabi and presentations
  • Assists all departments with educating, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and processes throughout Breeze
  • Conducts or assigns CBT training of team members on the SMS, reporting tools, risk analysis, ASAP and general safety subjects

Here’s what you need to be successful

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-year degree from an accredited university or 5+ years additional relevant experience
  • 4+ years’ experience in Part 121 Airline Operations or comparable aviation experience
  • 4+ years’ experience with data analytics, risk management, or Safety Management Systems (SMS) under FAR Part 5, and audits
  • Advanced skills in computer programs or computer programming
  • Experience in compiling reports and metrics necessary to track safety trends across multiple platforms
  • Experience in tracking and trending compliance metrics, objectives, and occurrences
  • Experience in managing the collection and analysis of data including interpreting data, identifying trends, and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of company operations
  • Working knowledge of regulations governing commercial aviation
  • Ability to acquire, analyze, and present information gained through independent research, coordination with team members, discussions with subject-matter experts, or others through appropriate methods
  • Ability to conduct or support data and/or analyses to provide meaningful and actionable insight that improve Breeze’s safety performance
  • Skilled in business intelligence and/or data reporting tools
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite
  • High performance orientation, ability to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and maintain flexibility
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
  • Self-starter must have a positive attitude and strong desire for success and works well with others.
  • Ability to work under stress in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (5%)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years’ experience in Part 121 operations
  • 2+ years’ experience in FAA’s Voluntary Safety Programs such as FOQA, ASAP, FRMS, Flight Data Collection, or an equivalent safety reporting program required as part of an approved SMS
  • Experience in program management
  • Experience in a 14 CFR Part 121 Safety Investigations, human factors, or risk management
  • Experience with WBAT, Vistair, Navitaire, TRAX, and/or MINT
  • FAA license/certificate for Pilot, Dispatch, A&P, or Flight Attendant or significant work experience in an operational role at a Part 121 Carrier or Aircraft OEM

  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations and authorizations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold Breeze’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
