Job Type: Full-Time
Seeking a Chemical Engineer with excellent skills in modeling and optimization of chemical, petrochemical, polymerization, or similar processes. Desired modeling skills include simulation, optimization, non-linear model predictive control, data-driven methods such as surrogate models, machine learning, and other statistical techniques, mixer-integer programming, disjunctive programming, commercial simulator packages.
Commensurate with these modeling competencies , the candidate should have deep knowledge of software such as GAMS, AIMMS, AMPL, Matlab, Python, PYOMO, or similar, Aspen or similar commercial simulators.
Candidate should have strong fundamental knowledge of process design & engineering, reaction engineering, thermodynamics, modeling, process control, scale-up, and experimental design. Knowledge of fermentation and computational fluid dynamics, polymerization, materials is also desired but not required.
Candidate will be expected to learn Braskem’s processes, research new processes, comprehend basic aspects of product and materials design, and develop a solid understanding of catalytic processes (polymerization and chemical), and fermentation as needed by the modeling assignment.
Candidate may lead or participate in interdisciplinary projects and implement programs throughout the global organization.
This role brings opportunities to provide technical assistance to identify and implement innovative new platform and disruptive technologies, giving value-added solutions for Braskem and its clients. Opportunities to provide support for existing facilities include debottlenecking, yield improvement, catalyst optimization, logistics, process optimization models, and evaluation or development of new technology, scale up of lab results including pilot plant and plant trials.
The role includes identifying and developing new enabling technologies, interacting with universities, driving new modeling/optimization efforts on cross-disciplinary teams, interaction with pilot plant and industrial plant teams for validation and testing of models.
Key Responsibilities Include:

Deep knowledge of software such as GAMS, AIMMS, AMPL, Matlab, Python, PYOMO, or similar, Aspen or similar commercial simulators.
Strong fundamental knowledge of process design & engineering, reaction engineering, thermodynamics, modeling, process control, scale-up, and experimental design.
Project management skills
Chemical engineer; Ph.D. with modeling emphasis preferred; candidates with experience collaborating with industrial sponsors preferred. Strong technical skills with ability to work collaboratively with other departments. Self-starter who works well in cross functional teams. Excellent communication skills and leadership abilities. Experience with process simulation tools such as Aspen Engineering Suite, Matlab, GAMS, AMPL, AIMMS, Python, PYOMO, etc.. Some travel is required to multiple global facilities to support projects and technology initiatives.
