About Branch Care:

Branch Care is a seed stage startup on a mission to make fertility care accessible to all. Our vision is to build a world where technology and science increases access to family creation.  Initially, our technology will enable this by making it easier for patients to begin their fertility journey with their OB/GYN, regardless of their location – increasing access to care.

We’re the most recent incubation of AlleyCorp, an incubator and early-stage investor based in NYC. Some of AlleyCorp’s prior investments and incubations include: Business Insider, Gilt Groupe, MongoDB (NASDAQ: MDB), Zola, Nomad Health (raised $250M to date), Pearl Health ($100M to date), Transcend Therapeutics ($100M to date) and more.

The problem we’re setting out to solve:

Despite growing demand, there is a very limited supply of reproductive endocrinologists (fertility specialists) in the US, compounded with an expectation that 20% of the workforce is slated to retire in the next two years. These specialists are typically concentrated in coastal cities, limiting access to fertility care for many who seek access.

From a training and licensure perspective, OB/GYNs are a natural extension to enable fertility specialists to provide care to more patients with the right tech and partnerships in place. They are the first point of contact for patients seeking fertility services but lack the means to easily coordinate fertility care with specialists.

Branch is building a tech-enabled network of fertility and OB/GYN practices to address this workforce shortage, improve patient outcomes through data, and make fertility care accessible to all.

The role:

We are seeking a brilliant Lead Data Scientist with a track record of propelling business strategies through analytical insights, algorithmic and statistical approaches. Given Branch’s focus on healthcare accessibility, this role offers one of the rare opportunities to solve real patient problems at a large scale, while advancing the field of fertility care.

You will be responsible for leading Branch’s data-driven product development, initially working with a dataset of ~18,000 fertility cycles from one of the top fertility clinics in the country. You will also help to grow our Data Science & Analytics function from the ground up - first as an individual contributor, and if the appetite and background is there, as a people leader as our team grows.

Key responsibilities:

  • Systematically investigate statistical and algorithmic approaches to make data-driven decisions – initially, focused on medication timing and dosage decisions as part of fertility (often referred to as “IVF” cycles)
  • Select features, build and optimize classifiers using machine learning techniques
  • Collaborate with clinicians, product managers, designers and software engineers to develop applied solutions and prioritize scientifically grounded product features
  • Address data challenges such as missing data, class imbalance, small data sizes, and inconsistent formatting
  • Extending company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
  • Inform Branch’s analytics strategy
  • (As desired) Participate in publications, presentations, and research to socialize data findings in the field

What we’re looking for:

  • Advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Biostatistics or similar
  • Deep knowledge of applied statistics and mathematics
  • Mastery of core statistical methods such as correlation analysis, hypothesis testing, evaluating distributions, etc.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Strong understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Random Forests, etc.
  • A proven ability to conduct research and collaborate directly with product development teams and clinicians to deploy data-driven products

Compensation Range & Benefits:

  • This is a non-exempt role that has the flexibility of both in-office and remote time.
  • The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000 based on several factors including job related knowledge and skill set, depth of experience, certifications and/or degrees.
  • This role is equity eligible
  • This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package
