The Collaboration Team owns Sharing and Collaboration experiences across the Box network. This team focuses on high-reuse components and real-time technology to power core product features that benefit millions of Box users every day. We have many exciting projects in the works and are looking for a leader to grow the team and technology.

What is the tech stack you will be working with?

  • Java Spring Boot for Box Hubs REST API server development.

  • Node.js for Box Hubs GraphQL server development.

What is the product/project roadmap for your team and how does this role contribute to and impact the business/external customers?

  • This team will grow into a horizontal “Application Services” team - building, owning, and maintaining middle-tier services that drive improvements, code reuse, and consistency across the Apps organization, create strong abstractions bridging the front-end and back-end and allowing those layers to iterate faster. In the near-term, this team will be focusing on the Hubs project, a major cross-functional effort enabling a completely new paradigm for how Box can help companies manage and expose content to their users

What are the biggest challenges and opportunities for this role?

  • Challenges: contract alignment with back-end and front-end teams - understanding customer requirements and designing interfaces that can scale and be re-used effectively for different user cases

  • Opportunities: massive business impact as the long-term goal will be for these Application Services to enable more rapid product iteration and driving substantial improvements to the customer experience

Who you are

  • Passionate about solving hard problems using data-driven solutions

  • You like to be an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions

  • Able to inspire other people to work with you, and you enjoy mentoring and coaching, as well as learning from other engineers

  • Excitement toward building distributed, client/server systems, especially in the web application space

  • Enjoy crafting elegant and scalable solutions

  • Have a passion for solving multi-data center scalability problems

  • You've built, deployed, and supported backend asynchronous services 

  • Knowledge of at least one object-oriented programming language, preferably Java

  • 2+ years of experience, with a Bachelors Degree (in CS) or equivalent
