WHY BOX NEEDS YOU
As a manager of the performance engineering team you will be responsible for the user experience at Box scale by ensuring our deployments can support our user workloads. This is highly cross-functional role and will partner with various engineering teams across Software, Platform, FinOps, Architecture and Product Management.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Use performance engineering to drive capacity management and cost efficiency for for Box services running on Public Cloud Infrastructure
- Build capacity big-data analytics, reporting, processes, and automation to ensure efficient infrastructure scaling on our Public Cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS,, Azure, etc) across hundreds of microservices
- Develop self-service tools and processes to enable service owners to understand and self-manage their capacity, efficiency, and costs
- Manage one of the largest areas of spend at the company by balancing high utilization and cost efficiency of our infrastructure with risk and developer velocity
- Strategic planning for Organic Growth and infrastructure impact of new project and architecture changes
- Lead a small team of performance engineers to perform bottleneck analysis for user workflows using Observability tools, application profilers etc.
- Responsible for benchmarking efforts, automated performance testing and workload optimizations
- Manage one of the largest areas of spend at the company by balancing high utilization and cost efficiency of our infrastructure with risk and developer velocity
- Partner with Development, Product, Architecture, and Business teams to evaluate and manage impacts of new products and features, architecture and hosting strategy changes, and infrastructure partnerships to ensure efficient scaling and cost efficiency.
- Continue building and developing a world-class engineering team through coaching, mentoring, and career development
WHO YOU ARE
Required skills
- 5+ years of experience with performance engineering for SaaS applications
- 2+ years of direct experience managing software development or performance engineering teams
- 2+ years of experience working with private and public clouds (IAAS, GCP, AWS, etc) and capacity management principles
- Demonstrated analytical and forecasting skills including synthesis of capacity models based on actual performance and test results, using capacity management and performance measurement tools.
- Bachelor's degree in STEM
Preferred skills
- Experience with building software tools and services for capacity management
- Experience in the internals of JVMs, performance profiling, optimization, analyzing Thread dumps, Memory dumps for bottlenecks
- Experience architecting solutions for high scale, high volume distributed platforms (Kubernetes, HBase, Caching etc.)
- Experience profiling applications written using Java Spring Boot, Django, Node.js, PHP etc.
- Hands-on experience building enterprise level test automation and performance test framework.
