WHAT YOU'LL DO
 
As the leader for our Kubernetes SRE team, you and your team will own Box's Kubernetes platform, powering our PaaS solution. This system is the heart of our business and the key platform for Box's services, running at a scale that exceeds most companies and estimated to grow significantly in the next couple of years.  This manager will have the opportunity to lead this environment through a challenging (but interesting) phase of it's lifecycle as we transform to meet our Hybrid cloud strategy -- emphasizing availability, performance and quality.
Our Cloud native team members are the experts on our in-house Kubernetes platform, but they are also integral to our charge into the public cloud.   We’re looking for someone that combines technical breadth and depth with strong management chops to successfully define and deliver on the roadmap.
 
We're a diverse mix of backgrounds and skillsets and each of us makes a big difference every day.  We need someone who knows how to run systems at scale and is passionate about using software to manage them rather than shell prompts. In particular we're looking for a principled leader who can grow, build, and develop the team and has equal parts EQ and IQ and a desire to continually learn in both domains.

  • You have experience running distributed systems in production at scale and have managed systems with software
  • You've been a hands-on engineering leader

  • You effectively prioritize and manage your time and you can communicate effortlessly in any medium - email, slack, phone, face-to-face - and to any audience from a senior engineer to a vice president
  • You value facilitating the growth of your team.  You ensure that their careers progress and that the team culture is collaborative and inclusive.
  • You want to bring all these talents to work with other brilliant engineers and power a world-wide storage platform!

Fine Print:

  • You have managed highly skilled engineering team for at least 2 years with demonstrated growth. 
  • You have spent 3+ years as an engineer supporting Kubernetes in a production context
  • You are a hands on engineering leader with experience on higher level coding languages (e.g Python, Go)
  • You have experience in running large-scale production cloud-native applications (GCP, AWS)
  • Experience in using industry standard DevOps CI/CD frameworks (Jenkins/Spinnaker, or the like) 
  • You're totally at home command-lining around and troubleshooting/scripting on a Linux system
  • You are passionate about solving complex problems with software
  • You have materially improved the operability of the systems you've run - through monitoring, service level management, lifecycle management, performance tuning, and documenting
