Bonobos is seeking an experienced Fabric R&D Lead to oversee the execution of multiple product categories, while maintaining design’s aesthetic and achieving product launch and margin goals.   

As the Senior Manager, Fabric & R&D, you will manage a high growth business in a very fast paced environment.  You will be ingrained in all functions of the company with a focus on teamwork and cross-functional partnerships, resulting in strategically sourcing fabric what best achieves our design aesthetic and fashion-forward needs while presenting. As the sole member of the fabric team, the Senior Manager will be responsible for all stages of the fabric development process. 


What you’ll do...

  • Drive Innovation & newness in raw materials
  • Utilize technical expertise to source & develop raw materials that meet Bonobos design aesthetic & quality requirements
  • Build & maintain a fabric resource library to support seasonal development & reference
  • Secure and maintain all claim substantiation records, transaction certificates, manage files for legal team
  • Manage fabric inspection, testing, quality issues and fabric special claims
  • Approve all development and bulk cuttings 
  • Coordinate all mill meetings seasonally
  • Travel to fabric shows 
  • Coordinate all sample yardage requests seasonally
  • Partner closely with production on sourcing strategy and mill allocation
  • Negotiate initial raw material costs
  • Work closely with mills and production team on any potential quality issues with raw materials
  • Recommend fabric construction changes and/or finishing to achieve required handfeel as well as passing test results
  • Utilize PLM systems, creating & managing fabric libraries, both physical & digital
  • Provide design/ecomm/merch/guide/marketing teams with product knowledge 


  • BA Degree 
  • 7-9 years of experience 
  • Focus on wovens - Asia and Italian mill rolodex 
  • Have a passion for building brands, rolling your sleeves up and doing the work, no job is too small for you
  • Experience working with value priced fabrications with an elevated aesthetic
  • Strong knowledge of sustainable fabrics, mills & certifications
  • Ability to navigate a corporate environment, while also managing the day to day of a startup
  • Excellent judgment and are able to act decisively in situations requiring quick but thorough analysis and decision-making, while understanding when and how to appropriately escalate issues
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to influence your peers and an organization, as well as to inspire and motivate a team to constantly outdo themselves
  • Strong communication skills, and are able to prioritize and re-prioritize based on changing business needs
