The Area Medical Director (AMD) leads the medical operations of a group of up to 6 clinics. The AMD ensures that Medical Directors in their clinics maintain a high standard of care and that clinic team members work collaboratively in a positive workplace environment. The Area Medical Director is client-oriented, an excellent communicator and a natural mentor to all members of their team. The AMD oversees and coaches the medical directors in communication, leadership, business and medicine. 

The Area Medical Director partners with the Regional Manager(s) that oversee(s) their clinics and reports to a Regional Medical Director to ensure the holistic success of their clinics. 

In addition to these leadership duties, the Area Medical Director may fulfill the responsibilities of a Medical Director. The ratio of clinical shifts to non-clinical shifts will vary depending on clinic number and size.

This position will support clinics located in and around Chicago, IL.

Schedule

  • 16 shifts per 4 weeks 
  • Each shift 10 hours
  • A mix of clinical shifts and non-clinical shifts per week, ratio dependent on clinic number and size

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversight of up to 6 clinics / Medical Directors
  • May act as Medical Director in 1 clinic 
  • Ensures the delivery of the highest quality (safe, effective, patient and client centered, timely, efficient and equitable) veterinary care by all team members
  • Mentors and develops Associate Veterinarians and Medical Directors  to be their best through side-by-side coaching, feedback sessions and regular case discussions
    • Shadow MDs and Associate DVMs
    • Perform EMR reviews for MDs and Associate DVMs
    • Facilitate surgical and dental training for MDs and Associate DVMs
  • Mentors and develops Medical Directors in culture, communication, engagement, leadership and business development via weekly time spent in clinic and weekly 1:1s
  • Leads the identification of internal talent, elevation, and development of MDs and acts as a mentor to emerging medical leaders
  • Implements a Performance Improvement Process to address performance issues if and when they arise within their direct reports, thereby maintaining a high performing team
  • Organizes and conducts regular meeting with MDs and doctors (when acting MD) to foster and strengthen positive hospital culture
  • Acts as a thought partner to MDs and CMs and contributes to the development of new practice protocols and guidelines and implements them in an efficient and engaging way
  • Partners with Regional Manager and CM in delivering an excellent client experience including the resolution of client complaints when applicable
  • Participates in talent acquisition efforts for doctors and, when appropriate, support staff to ensure the recruitment of the highest caliber of veterinary talent
  • Oversees the Clinic Doctor Schedule (creates when MD) to balance the needs of the hospital and of their Associate Veterinarians
  • Acts as an ambassador of Bond Vet within the veterinary community and the public at large

Requirements:

  • Veterinary Medical Degree (DVM/VMD or equivalent foreign degree)
  • State licensure that is in good standing OR eligibility for such licensure.  To include all states for clinics under supervision.
  • DEA licensure and CDS licensure if needed for all states for clinics under supervision.
  • 5+ years of clinical veterinary experience
  • 1+ year of Medical Director / Leadership Experience
